With the drop on the MMR springs do you think the camber would bring them in a bit? I’d prefer a little camber adjustment rather than arch roll, rear arches feel flat so it would be more of an arch pull right? And with the same fitment up front running a 245 should clear?

Yes, these arches are quite soft, and tend to flare more than roll.

Sounds like quite a bit of faff and compromise to get a set of poorly fitting wheels on? Personally I’d rather spend the money you’d waste on a bad alignment on better alloys in the first place. Adding camber reduces your straight line traction and braking, and obviously gives you inner shoulder wear.

I had front arch rub with 245/35 at 8” ET40, but I’d fitted M4 wishbones for more camber. Fewer problems with standard wishbones.

Hello,
I've read first 20 pages, but i just want to be sure. i am looking new rims for the winter tyres all around 225/40/18. I dont want to use spacer. i want a good fit.

I found some rims in my dealer, i am writing all parameters just to be sure. Which one can be good to go with 225/40/18 winter tyre setup?

MAK Zenith - 18/8 inches / ET40 / central hub 72,6 / 5x120
AXE wheels EX18 Satin Grey - 18/8 inches / ET40 / central hub 72,6 / 5x120
YOTA YP7 Gloss Graphite - 18/8 inches / ET40 / central hub 72,6 / 5x120

or a bit different size
MAM W4 SL - 18/7,5 inches / ET35 / central hub 72,6 / 5x120

I would go for ET40 myself, you will flick fewer stones up the sides of your own car.

Also, BMW design the whole steering and suspension around an offset of ET45 (scrub radius, King Pin Inclination, etc), so it's best not to move too far from there.

Just finished reading the last 20 pages of this thread and I think I am on the right track, you guys are awesome, I would just like to get definite confirmation of my plans before pulling the trigger:

Looking at Koya SF03 or SF13 (decision pending). I believe their Semi Forged wheels are decent and ~7KG.

Car is 2017 M140i - Lowered on Eibach Pro-Kit SP springs (25mm ish)

F: 18x8 ET35 with 245/35
R: 18x9 ET45 with 255/35

Hoping for a really nice flushish stance, well in the OEM+ area, but not poking. The stock wheels tuck too much. Also keen for gloss black wheels over gunmetal.

Hoping to know if there are clearance issues inside or if the guards need rolling.

Any advice that would make this setup more ideal?

Thank you in advance, really appreciate someone giving feedback on this :)

Nice to see this thread is still going. I've decided to join the bandwagon and look for some aftermarket alloys and demote the OEM wheels to Winter Wheels. As most of you know offsets and ET's are always the limiting factors in what options we have available.

I did see a Scott Helme's old blog about his wheel choices and going for a square set up of 19x8.5J ET43 all around and says its fine. Has anyone else tried this setup? I've seen some wheels which can be made in 18x8.5J with ET available from ET25-48 and I'm wondering if ET43 front and rear is the best option? Car is a 2016 M140 on stock suspension and brakes.

@marco_polo (The Legend :D) - Any advice/thoughts?

8.5J at ET43 can get really close to the front struts, depends on the design/thickness of the bead (as J is an internal measurement rather than overall width). Not all wheels are the same. If you can try before you buy, you could ask to trial fit an ET43 and double check they clear?

If you're buying blind, I'd be going for ET40 or ET41 myself. I know 2mm is a tiny wee difference, but contact would be a nightmare.

Thanks Marco - It's a blind purchase essentially so perhaps ET40 would be the way to go. Do you think it would then be possible to run the current rear tyres on the front (245/35/18 ) and then run slightly wider 255/30/18 on the rear? Or would I need to keep a 40 profile on the front tyre sidewall?

245/35/18 fit perfectly on the front.

To fit 255/35/18 on the back you'd want ET44+ really to avoid arch rub.

If you're happy with a staggered fitment, I'd be going ET40 front and ET45 rear, with 245 and 255 respectively.

So, following on from my previous post. Wheels have arrived, however looking at the bolt holes made me slightly concerned that the OEM bolts wouldn't be long enough or that the 'collar' would be too big for the bolt to sit in there correctly.

I took one of the OEM bolts out of the wheels and tried it against the new wheel and sure enough the 'collar' of the bolt is too wide for the drilled groove of the new wheel. See pics.

So the question here is, is anyone aware what bolt I may need to fit into the hub/wheel that is the right length? I've seen "tuner bolts" but unsure if those are the right solution and if so, what sizes I would need. I've also read about stud conversions as possible solutions. Any input is appreciated.

Hi all, new guy here. I have had BMW's on and off for years (E30 318is, E46 328i sedan, E46 330 Ci, currently F15 X5 35i). Today I picked up a 2014 F21 M135i xDrive in Apine White, and I am in love all over again. Problem is, it has horrible aftermarket wheels which I want to replace asap. Ideally I would go for the original 436M, but where I live they are hard to find used and new is out of my price range. I have found a set of replicas, 18x8 ET43 all round which I understand should fit without spacers (although I am ready to be corrected). I actually prefer a square setup but the tire choice is trickier!
225/40, 235/40, or 245/35. Ideally I would prefer that the tire edge sits in line with the rim of the wheel - suggestions?
