Hi all
I've got a 2016 M140i, which I may lower slightly with an EIbach Pro kit, and want to change the wheels
I've narrowed it down to to 2 options for wheels, and a few different tyre options for each of the wheels. I want the wheels to fill the arches and sit flush with a nice stance but not poke out, and I'm not into the stretched tyre look.

Wheel 1- AXE EX34 18x8J ET40 for the front and 18x9J ET40 for the rear.
Tyre option 1- 225/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear
Tyre option 2- 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear
Tyre option 3- 245/35/18 front and rear
Tyre option 4- 245/35/18 front 255/35/18 rear
Tyre option 5- 245/35/18 front 265/35/18 rear

Wheel 2- JR34, square setup 18x8J ET42
Tyre option 1- 225/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear
Tyre option 2- 245/35/18 Front 245/35/18 rear

I've read through the whole thread, and have subsequently ruled out a lot of wheels having learned a lot, and I'm pretty sure that either of these 2 wheels will work well, but am unsure of which tyres to go for. I'd really appreciate some help please.
Thanks
At 9J ET40, 255mm and 265mm would probably rub on the arch. You'd want about ET44 and ET49 respectively.

If you don't want them looking stretched, I'd be going for Wheel 2, Option 2.

Hi Marco
Thanks for the reply.
having done a bit of reading it seems that 245 are the minimum width tyre for a 9” wheel, so my question is will a back wheel of 245/35/18 on a 9x18 et 40 have any issues in terms of rubbing etc. I appreciate that they’ll look a little stretched and not offer anything in terms of kerb protection but will they fit?
Thanks

Correct, stretched and no protection kerbs, but they won't rub.

Ok. If I go for the Ex34’s, the fronts are 8x18 et 40. If I’m going for a 245/35 on the back on the 9’s would you recommend the same tyre for the fronts or would I be better off with a 225/40/18.
Honestly I’m so grateful for the advice, I really appreciate it

If you fit 245/35 all round the car will look really odd, with 'ballooned' tyres on the front and 'stretched' tyres on the back. 225/40/18 would give you a more even fitment front to rear.

Ok. That makes perfect sense and you’re right, would look really odd.
last question for now
I’ve just come across a set of 19” 704M wheels. They’re fitted with 255/35/19 rears and 225/40/19 fronts. I appreciate that the correct size for my car is 255/30/19 and 225/35/19 but would these fit as they are?

As you say, they tyres are incorrect, buy probably wouldn't rub anywhere.

Hey guys,

I'm currently rocking the 461m wheels 7.5x18 front and 8x18 rear with 225/40/18 and 245/35/18 respectively (OEM wheel and tire size) on my 2018 118i.

I was thinking of switching to 235/40/18 on the rears as the size availability is much larger in my region. Putting in the size in a tire size calculator, I get the below result.

Does anyone have any comments about switching? Anyone running a similar setup? 245/40/18 are also an option, but they have 3.6% increase in diameter.

235/40 are fine, not much larger than the 225/40 fronts you’re matching them with, roughly 1% larger.

Lots of us run 235/40 as rear winter tyres.

good day all,

having now had a couple of wheels buckled by the wonderful uk roads i am Now going after a set of aftermarket’s on my 2012, F20.

having trouble finding same offsets for the rear.

my original rear are ET52, with more common offsets around ET45.

I think there will be no problem fitting in the wheel arch but my question is will there be any affect on the handling??

many thanks in advance. 👍

Rear cornering grip will be slightly improved.

Most people buy rear wheels around ET40-ET45, the only disadvantage is you are taking up most of the room BMW leave for their proprietary snow chains. Not something that bothers most people in the UK.

@marco_polo so assistance please

I bought a set of Bola FLB anthracite 18x8.5 ET40 Front 245/35/18 , ET45 rear 255/35/18 , from your advice thank you very much,

all was well until one got damaged by a bridge expansion join on the A14, thought not a problem just get a singe replacement wheel from Bola and send invoice to highways agency job done

Not so easy as Bola have no planned date for 18x8.5 FLB anthracite.

so am not getting a new set of Wheels and decided on Braid Full race FF Anthracite 18x8.5 in same ET's They have just come back to me to say the lowest ET they can manufacture to is ET41 , I know its only 1mm difference but as it puts the rim closer to the Strut, and I'm on Birds B1 , will this cause a problem?
Tiers will be the same size.

Should be ok.

The easiest way to decide this for yourself is to pop outside, turn the wheel to full lock, and see how much clearance you currently have? Do you have another 1mm to spare between tyre and damper?

Thank you, will put the front wheel back on tomorrow and check as you suggest.
As have OEM wheel back at present due to buckle,

was really surprised tha the outer dented between spokes and inner barrell is not deformed at all

hopeing the Braids are a bit stronger

Hi! Looking for some advice on a set of alloys.on my 2019 M140i
JR-SL01 Front and rear 18x8.5 ET 38. Hoping to run 245/35/18 all round for a square setup. My main concern is front strut clearance. I know it’s a bit aggressive but hoping to fill the arches without and rubbing or rolling needed also running MMR springs.
Thanks for the help!

I would be more concerned about brake calliper clearance than the front struts, people have had problems with JL SL01 wheels recently.

Can you try before you buy?

No option to test fit unfortunately! I have seen someone running the SL01 on the front with 18 x 8.5 ET33 and it clears caliper and strut but they are using a 225 tyre and for me it’s too stretched and doesn’t look like enough clearance for a 245, the rim seems flush with the arch. with no option of rotating the wheels. Maybe I can find a wheel place that will let me test fit for the caliper clearance
