This is the response I received from support, and copying the file manually worked.

Thank you for contacting us.

Please try to manually update the main firmware of the camera.

For this please download the file from the webpage below and copy it to the main directory of the SD-card of the ACE.

After starting the camera (ignition on), the update will install itself.

This update will last up to five minutes.

If the issue persists, please test again with another SD-card.

Best regards

Has anybody tinted their rear window with the rear camera attached, or do you have to remove the camera first? Also, does the tint interfere with the picture quality? We are looking at the shade 20% which is lighter than limo..thanks

Hi brian,

I can't say anything if the camera has to be removed for tinting the rear window. But I have the original tinted windows from BMW in the 5 series (G31) and the picture is slightly darker. Attached you find two pics, one front and one rear picture. Perhaps you'll find this useful.

You're welcome.
But I have another question regarding the recorded files. I configured my ACE2.0 to record continuosly. Now I have several files, one minute legth each. Does it then make any sense at all to start manual recordings? Are these manual recordings "protected" in any way not to be overwritten?

Let's say I have a 6h drive. After 1h there is an event I like to save, so I hit the record button. Will this recording be available after 5 further hours of driving? My understanding is that the recorded files will be overwritten at some point.

Marco this device is still pretty new to me, so I am learning, but I do not believe manual recordings are protected, and I believe that option is for when you are not in continuous recording mode. I guess you could also press it to make sure an event is recorded.

If you want to save an event/file you must copy the file from the SD card to your desired device, or it will be overwritten when it runs out of space. You could also keep a second SD card handy to swap it out with.

Cheers

My Ace 2 was fitted by the dealer for the first owner. The rear cam is mounted about 6" from the top of the screen and 10" from the left edge. The cable runs across the glass from left to right, sagging in the middle and not stuck in position. It looks dreadful. Could it not have been mounted at the top or left edge to avoid running the cable across the glass?

Hello guys. Nice to meet you all. I have had my fair share of Ace2.0 installation and activation hardships. So we've all been there. My question is , has anyone left their vehicle parked somewhere (garage etc) for a few days and don't get any footage? Like zero footage. The reason being is, I left my car at at repairer for two weeks, checked the dashcam and there was no footage at all from the day I dropped the vehicle until I got it back. Thank you.

Think it's due to GDPR so they just deactivate dashcams while they are in the workshop.

Hello All, I have recently purchased a 4 series with the ACE2.0 already installed. Unfortunately my cam is not working not sure why? It was working one day and now it won't record and I can't connect via wifi seems dead? Would anyone be able to advise on this please. I appreciate this is an old thread...

Hi Ellinas, The BMW ACE 2.0 Camera does not require to be connected by Wi-Fi via your mobile phone's BMW ACE 2.0 App all the time to work and record events whilst in the driving and or in parking mode. You only need to connect to set up your personal preferences on how you want the camera to work for you i.e. Whether you want video clips of both the front and rear view cameras saved or just the front or just the rear; whether you want 'Parking' mode or not and to set the sensitivity of the two sensors used within the system etc and other items that you can select and to view recordings etc. Question 1: Have you set up your preferences? Question 2: Can you view any video recordings? Question 3: Do you receive audio warnings from the camera? If all has been installed and working correctly then when you start your vehicle you should here an audio warning, such: 'Recording started' and if you have set the system up for parking mode, when you turn off your ignition you should here such: 'Recording Stopped' followed by 'Parking Mode Started' and if the sensors have been triggered whilst in the parking mode, then again you will receive an audio alert once you turn your ignition on , such: 'Events recorded whilst in parking mode'. You then connect to the camera and in the area named 'Parking' you will find the video clips of activations whilst you have been parked. All driving clips will be stored in the area named 'Driving'. You must set the sensitivity levels and they are very sensitive indeed.. you will get alerts of activity every time as the parking mode is very quick to activate once the ignition is switched off because you will still be in the car or taking things out, so be aware. Let me know if this is of help and also reply to the questions I've asked please so I can assist you further. If need be and to save space on the forum you can answer via 'Private Message' and if we get things sorted, you can, if you wish place a summary on the forum in due course. Regards, Jack
Good Morning, I am interested in this post as I feel like I was mis sold these! I bought front and rear cameras for my vehicle from the dealer but cannot seem to access videos unless I am in my car and have to reconnect it. This seems a bit backwards as my previous dashcams were on a "cloud" and allowed me to access from an app on my phone. I could see all videos any time I wanted. I asked originally if they would refit my other ones and of course they declined. I had to buy their BMW ACE ones. When they were installed I received no instructions of operation etc, gave me keys and that was it I now need to access video and discover I can't unless I'm in the vehicle and have to reconnect it to my app each time. Wow! Am I reading this correctly or am I just being utterly dense and there is a magic setting somewhere for cloud based or offline download etc?

Do you have a laptop or PC? You can take the Micro SD card out of the side of the camera and put it into a USB adapter and then put the USB stick into the computer and see the video files from there.
