Im completely dissasified with XHP.

Soft shifts in sport and no way to change, ive emailed them and they have admitted its only sports plus and traction that gets the fast shifts.

The instant paddle response is a complete lie its still delayed.

Comfort seems to take longer than normal to change gears, sports mode manual mode is awful to use.

I literally cant see what the hype is about.
It seem like we are having similar results.
The awful delay in manual is the biggest disappointment for me.
I'll give it a couple of hundred miles, and see what it's like when pushing on a bit.
If it's no better I may go to stage 1 to hopefully keep the benefits of the morning starts and gear indicator.
It's still early days for me so let's see.

For those who are experiencing issues with xHP:
During the bedding in process, did you leave it in full auto and switch between comfort, sports & sports +?

Or did any of you use the manual paddles?

I was told not to touch them, and leave them in auto. I've experienced no issues as of yet.

Bedding in period for me was 60-70 miles

I can understand why you'd be frustrated with that.

However I only ever use comfort, sport+ and DSC Off modes so not a problem for me at all. When I'm in comfort the car is always in auto, and when I'm in the other modes it's always in manual so works perfectly fine for me.

Personally don't understand the point in Sport mode as the traction control intervenes far too early to be able to drive in a sporting manor and Sport+ Intervenes early enough to save even someone with no driving skill who's driving like a complete idiot. But this is a whole other argument :lol2:

D'you know, I have no clue what version of xHP I'm running lol, the latest I guess?

1 sec, will check now!

Very strange.

When you say manual, you are putting the stick to the left and then tapping paddles?

When I first got the car, I was rarely in manual/sport gearbox mode, I just used the switch to change the throttle pedal between eco/comfort/sport/sport+. After XHP, if I am going for a hoon, gearbox flicked left and engine in sport+ and it is right where I want it for road driving.

Yep, stick to the left and paddling!
When I'm in sport+ and stick to the left the changes are what they used to be in comfort.

I did 50ish miles in eco pro and comfort, and at around 40 miles went in to sport on the DEC switch. No sport+ or paddles.
Tried paddles at about 55-60 miles.

Have you had anymore joy with this?

I'm thinking about doing mine over the next week. Would you do it?

Cost is ÂŁ250 is that right?
Nope. I think its completely overrated tbh.

When i questioned why sport mode has soft shifts i was told i should do some driver training and drive in sports plus or traction mode. No explanation as to why sports mode is soft shifting.

Manual mode in comfort/sport mode are delayed as hell, takes like a full second to change after changing gear.

Traction mode/sports plus are a lot better but dont kick down a gear as easily as stock unless you go past a certain throttle position so sometimes you wont accelerate as quick as you would stock, its not as bad with the gearbox in sports mode BUT that means your driving around with revs held high.

Glad I've read this thread now!!

I was going to get XHP but no chance now. I use Sport a lot, for example when I'm at lights, junctions, roundabouts etc and want the quick darting acceleration, but not have to use the paddles.

Sport+ just changes gear way too late for me as stock so I only use Sport+ when I want a really quick getaway and will be using the paddles and Sport box, or if on a proper back lane driving session.

Just saved myself ÂŁ350 I guess!! It should be much cheaper than what it is and more people would give it a try, I'd be willing to gamble at ÂŁ100 and I doubt XHP have any insurance in place for blowups so I don't see where the money is.

I would imagine the labour in a box swap is nearly as much again, or more.
I looked into this "just in case" and it's quite an easy DIY swap on these, if my box ever goes I will just put a second hand one in myself.

My take on it, different car (340i) but same engine & box. MHD stage 1. I only drive in comfort/auto, or sport/manual.

Comfort/auto. I was looking forward to having the gearbox 'lock-up' sooner, to give it a more responsive feel around town. Yes you can feel it locking up sooner but you get a very slight jerk when it does so, and the same when it goes up or down a gear. I now miss that smooth 'waftiness' in comfort.

Sport/manual. The gear changes are now smoother than stock. Which wont suit you if you like to feel that little thump you get when changing up at high revs.

Sport+/manual. This is where those thumps are, and you can specify how soft or hard you want them. Great fun when you're in the mood but I found it becomes tiring after a while and was glad to switch back to sport - so an unexpected bonus.

But this is where I can feel the benefit.
Having a stage 1 tune, before the xHP flash I often felt the the power was being reigned in at high revs, as if a throttle closure or something, and at lower revs the boost came in quite suddenly, not in a linear fashion.
Since xHP both of these traits have gone. The delivery is more linear and I haven't had the feeling of power being held back.
MHD has a tick box you select for manual gearboxes or those fitted with xHP. This removes the 'signal bending' MHD builds in to fool the gearbox into thinking it's receiving less power from the engine than it really is with a tune, which prevents it telling the DME to reduce the torque. I assume this is why my car feels like it now has a stronger, smoother power delivery.

I would rather have xHP than not, but I can't understand why some people rave about it. Can't really say it was worth the money. If I didn't have a tune, I wouldn't want it.

On top of the cost I was charged ÂŁ7 odd 'currency conversion' fee, probably because I used a credit card to pay. Not sure if the same fee is appled when using a debit card.

Surely XHP would be perfect for your application?

Sport with the gearbox in auto will give you a sharp throttle response, quicker changes than a stock gearbox and won't hold the revs high after. Then when I'm back roads in sport+ and manual you get the really fast changes. Also all of the upshift and downshift points are completely customisable gear by gear.

On my pre-lci M135i it really is night and day with XHP for the better and I'm glad I spent my money. Comfort is smoother yet with faster shifts than stock and sports+ manual the shifts are as fast as my friends DCT e82 135 with an instant response on the paddles. With running a mild MHD stage 1 tune without XHP I could feel the power being held back, so if you are tuned it's a no brainier.

I thought 140ifan says it loses that gearbox thump in Sport though? My main driving when having fun is in Sport mode rather than Sport+ so losing that thump alone would negate any of the other benefits.

I've ended up not using manual mode much in mine so I wouldn't want the stock box characteristics to change much, in fact the only thing that ever annoys me is that low down jerkiness sometimes at roundabouts etc in Comfort mode, but even then it doesn't bother me much. :lol2:
