great upgrades so far and seems like you got a great deal. Please could you show us how you changed the rear lights to facelift lights including the wiring as I understand the wires are different. Pics would be ace!

First off, a big thanks to mcflow for guiding me with installing the lights.

Here goes...

old left side -> new:

1 - black/purple -> blue/green
2 - green/yellow -> green/yellow
3 - brown -> brown
4 - empty -> empty
5 - blue/green -> black/purple
6 - green/purple -> green/purple

old right side -> new:

1 - green/yellow -> blue/brown
2 - blue/brown -> green/red
3 - brown -> brown
4 - empty -> empty
5 - green/red -> black/blue
6 - black/blue -> green/yellow

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of how to do it, but it's very simple when you know how to wire them. Only picture I have is one I took half way through with my phone.

Be prepared for bleeding fingers!

Those are just standard FL lights. I looked into the LED ones but they required an extensive amount of work. I'd have liked them but it wasn't worth it for me.

As I was having the bumper sprayed up, I spoke nicely to the guys at the bodyshop and they fitted it for me gratis. I had predicted it to be a bumper off, bumper on job but it took considerable time to get it to fit perfectly according to them. They showed me the reverse of my old bumper and tried to demonstrate where the mounting points had been different. As I mentioned, the fogs wouldn't fit initially, but after ordering different brackets for the new bumper, I managed to get in behind the splashguards and fit them. Job now done and very happy with the result. Something a bit different to the hatch's M sport front end but still looks oem.

When you say extensive...how much work is involved? Possible to DIY it?

 

I imagine it is possible. I just wasn't prepared to do it myself. I seem to remember it involved rewiring right back to the headlight switch.

 

Is that a coupe front bumper then? Where did you get it from? Is it second hand? And if so, did it spray up OK? I'm assuming it wasn't silver when you bought it?

There are a few coupe bumpers on ebay mate

 

Yep it's a coupé bumper and off ebay. Bought it in primer.

 

Looks great mate . Personally I don't like modding cars from what they were orginally, but I have to say it does look good!

Sorry, don't have a note of the part numbers. They're just standard facelift lights, though. Easy to come by.

Looks cracking mate and will look even better with the rear M Sport bumper! Any plans to change the wheels? They're the only week link IMHO!

I know they are and I want to change them but trying not to spend money on the car (unsuccessfully). All going to plan I'm going away for a year towards the end of next year so will most likely sell up then. G-d only knows why I keep ploughing money into it then!
