Hello everyone, Ive took the exciting step after loving my first BMW, an E82 as per signature, to ordering an M2. This site has been great at helping/advising me during my BMW ownership so I would like forum members opinions on security/protection of the M2.
Which systems would people go for, Autowatch Ghost, Tracker, Disklock, CCTV etc. The car will be garaged at home but will be used as my daily so will be parked in a company car park with barrier protection across 3 shifts.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'm currently leasing an Audi S3 which apparently the most knicked/targeted car at the moment along with the Golf R etc. Tbh I would just look at improving home security to limit them getting into your house. Most of these higher value cars are being stolen by gangs of criminals with specific models in mind not so much scallys just looking for a joyride. They want the keys which means getting into the house. I thought about steering locks and even a retractable bollard but IMO they'll just come back in to threaten you for the keys for these things which is not something I want for my family at 2 in the morning.

I improved locks with anti snap, added floodlights and just simple things like lock to the side gate. I never take my keys to bed like some people suggest if they manage to get in sod the car my family is more important.

I personally would ensure your home/garage has a good alarm system which you arm at night. Also change your locks to 3 star antisnap types.

Tracker - it will get parked up and left for a few days to see if it has one. At this point, would you really want it back?

Autowatch ghost - good idea but they'll just threaten you for the code.

Disklock - again they'll just ask you for the key.

CCTV - just allows you to watch them nick it. They will be wearing hoodies / masks etc.

Approx 27 or so Mx40i/35i reported stolen on this forum according to another post.

1) not one stolen using the so called comfort access entry method
2) not one stolen using force eg threatening the owner to hand the keys over
3) not one stolen that had a disclock on
4) not one stolen that had an Autowatch Ghost.
5) not one stolen when parked in the road rather than a driveway

Everyone stolen by breaking in to the house and stealing the keys, in fact it appears a few attempted thefts have been thwarted by burglar alarms and the thief being disturbed and legging it.
My point is many people insist that having extra car security is in someway going to get you attacked, in actual fact there is very little evidence to support those peoples statements. I am not naĂŻve enough to think any of the above couldn't happen BUT so far it seems very unlikely. Bottom line is secure your house first as best you can and then secure your car if you want to.
Not sure how this was compiled but I'm absolutely sure I've seen at least one user on this forum post about his car being stolen using comfort access. Otherwise they have linked to other forums or social media posts.

I'm not going to search the forum but there is enough data here to show that Mx35/40 cars have been targeted. However, I don't believe that it's a problem that is specific to the type of cars owned by members of this forum and from what I can tell more to do with geographical areas. I agree that securing your house is the best option.

I had my M135i stolen by thieves breaking in to my house at night and taking the keys (on the kitchen table)....it took me two days to notice it had gone! (not a daily).

Police advice was lock your windows and doors properly and get an alarm. There may be gangs targeting certain types of vehicles but they will always go for the easiest option, so make it hard/risky for them and hope they go to the next town to find your model.

My alarm has a safe room mode with an alarm fob so it can be on at night when I'm in.
