Who on earth is going to give a negative review and risk not getting an invite effectively harming their own earnings and career? Nobody.

The very best one was the Golf R launch a few years back. All the journalists were invited out to test the car in conditions were deep snow and the cars were it was proper winter tyres with studs.

The conditions made it impossible to judge just about anything about the car, but they all came back with glowing 5 star reviews raving about performance, grip and handling.
Definitely not these media influencer types who will recommend cats **** for perfume if they got something out of it. They must be a marketers dream come true.

Exactly that. The magazines are held over a barrel as they need articles and they need to sell magazines. Nobody buys a magazine to see a review that says their car is ****. In fact who even guys magazines these days? They must be getting desperate to stay alive.

There is even more YouTube bloggers these days. Again they are on an invitation basis and most of them appear to be working in conjunction with other people to sell stuff.

There's hardly an opinion worth accepting these days as they are all looking after number 1.

Watched Shmee's video on the launch and enjoyed his review but to my ears the exhaust note sounded really poor and would definitely need a performance exhaust when and if one becomes available. Sound is a massive part of my driving experience and plays a big part in purchasing a car and the M2C just sounds :|

I'm not sold on the looks that much either, looks far less aggressive that the 'old' M2. I'm sure it will be great to drive but I'm pretty glad I didn't wait around for this and jumped in a peasant M2 [emoji38]
Yup, I agree with your sentements regarding the noise the car makes, it's all part of the theatre, and I thought the M2C in the Shmee video sounded a bit blah too.

And I also agree about the less-aggressive look of the M2C, I think it might be because the wheels aren't as 'dished' as the Old M2.

I'd still have one though :) , I like the choice of colours and the Hockenheim Silver I saw today looked mega in the flesh, very imposing :cool2: .
Was quite interested in the sound of the S55 in the M2 as my neighbours M3 sounds very much like a lawn mower and he has an M Performance exhaust as well. I did listen with head phones on so maybe that made a difference.

The engine noise in the Shmee video actually sounded pretty good from the inside (revised ASD?), almost reminiscent of the old E46 M3s. Even outside, it wasnt unpleasant and better than the M3/M4 iteration. Sounded deeper but different to the N55 which it obviously would.

Will still be a better car in most respects than the original, BMW are not going to engineer a worse revised model.

The only person I'd take notice of is C. Harris.
I'm not sure the ability to drive everywhere sideways makes his opinion more worthy than any of the other hacks! :D
There is a lot more to Harris than just driving sideways lol. Forgot to mention Catchpole he is another good reviewer.

I saw a picture from Goodwood of the new M2C in white with the carbon parts on it. There is something about the new carbon front wing that ties in really well with the new bigger grill. I don't think the front looks as balanced with the big grill and the smaller side pieces.

Getting into big money for all the parts, but a fully kitted M2C will be an absolute stunner.

I think it looks great but doesn't seem as aggressive looking as the old M2? unless maybe it doesn't photograph as well.

I saw a couple reviews where they mentioned the brakes being a bit disappointing. hopefully they were the last reviewers using cooked brakes and they are actually good.. finger crossed.

Come on guys, not a lot of love here for the M2C... Sour grapes maybe?

The M2C looks better, dives better and goes better than the current M2. Sound aside it's a better allround package.

You wouldn't think it reading this thread, understandably I feel that you're justifying you own purchases but come on guys! Geez! 😋

If you say so.

Let's see how it drives after jumping straight out of our current M2s.

Not having been jollied over to Spain having not driven the original (not LCI) for 2 years.

I fully respect that, my point being that many here seem very quick to talk it down. Yet this has the makings to be one of the best coupes BMW have ever produced.

Don't like the wheels, it's gonna sound crap, I don't need more power, new seats are too big, don't like the new grill, doesn't look as agressive as the current M2, the carbon strut brace looks like a toilet... And so on!

Not trolling just a stark observation having read the last 3 pages.

I think it's a natural reaction, intended or otherwise, when your precious has become the 'old' model. When the 240i lci came out, from the release pictures I didn't too much of the interior updates or tail lights, but later came to see them as a enviable improvement.

The M2C is a very significant upgrade: engine, seats, brakes (latter two optional of course), suspension tweaks and substantial change to the front. Myself, I think if I was going to commit to 45K+ on pcp I would have either looked to stretched it another 10K, or not at all.

But it's all horses for courses, and I think some of the observations about the new M2C have some merit. On the front bumper changes, it seems to me that they are aiming to move the M2 into the more subtle, 'grown-up' styling of the M3/M4. I prefer the look, but again can fully understand why some would prefer a more 'street'/hot-rod look. I agree about the wheels though, the std on the current M2 look better. As for the exhaust, from the online clips the M2C sounds more meaty to me but a bit flat, and lacking the exhaust note of the N55 M2.

A surprise for me though is that a detuned the S55 is returning 0-60 figures the same as the N55 M2, and just 0.2 sec faster than a m240i, though of course it's the engine characteristics that matter just as much, and I appreciate that they have to leave some room for when they want to give the sales a boost next time round.

0.2 seconds faster than a m240i after that it will walk it
i'd certainty expect so, given that the m240i is faster to 100 than the orig M2: they always needed to sort that anomaly out.

it is what it is, an improvement but we don't have to think every bit is particularly better just because it's been changed. I don't like the wheels and the seats do look a little large I'm whats a smallish cabin. I like the way the two look similar but also different and I like the way they have made a new m2 rather than overhauling the original, if that makes sense.

For me the m2c would be that little bit too much so for me I'm glad I had the opportunity to buy an m car, something I've always wanted.

Had the m2c been the original with the price tag it is I would still be pining after one and driving my m135i, which was great but didn't push all the buttons for me. As fortune has it I'm driving about in what I can only describe as a joy, anyone who thinks any different baffles me but then that's people for you.

Sour grapes, I think not.

And On a side note, 0-60 means nothing when you are down to the times we are talking. Buy an RS3 if that's what floats your boat
Firstly, my comment 'sour grapes' on reflection was a tad harsh. Totally understand your above comments and a fair point raised in terms of price point.

Both are special cars, I was just supprised to see so many negative comments and little excitement or love for the up coming M2C
