Yes, on mine it is quite noticeable on start up against a wall at night (set on auto if it makes a difference).

 

Cheers mate. Must be something wrong with mine then. I keep mine set to auto. Another thing that needs fixing!

Checked the level arm on the N/S wishbone when I was painting the calipers today and it's still there. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. It's connected to a control box, part no. 1 on this diagram

The movement of the lights at startup is very noticeable on my car too. I guess there's a rear level sensor as well. You should check that also.

Had a quick look on realoem under rear axel and there looks like a headlight vertical aim sensor listed.
Anyone know where this is located?

 

There's a bracket on top of the biggest rear suspension arm. You can see it if you bend down behind the car. On my car (LHD) it's on the left side (same side as the front sensor).

Seems both part nos. are the same for front and rear for my build date. Look to be about £50 based on realoem prices. Have done a price finder on bmminiparts. Problem is I'm not sure this is whats causing the problem!

Do you reckon it'll show which sensor is at fault?

 

Got a diagnosis done tonight and here's the fault code

FRM-9CB6 FRM
Headlight vertical aim control coil break
Swivel Module B6300_87027

Did the headlight test and the level function works when controlled by the DIS so the lights can auto level.
Looks like the sensor is gone?
