You could use some isopropyl alcohol and wash the circuit board gently with a tooth brush, to get rid of dirt that could possibly short circuit something. From what I've seen and read these circuit boards are quite robust, so there's a good chance that you will get it up and running again.

Will do, I used to clean up old Arcade cabinet boards using the Mrs nail polish remover, always done a great job.
If you take a look in the top right of the picture you will see some of the items look like the small resistors may have lifted off the board, I will take a look at it but I think I've spotted some on eBay to hopefully replace if this doesn't work out.

Didn't notice that the components had lifted. Unless you're really good with electronics, I would just buy a new (used) unit.

It might be just really mucky, it's in rice now so will take a look tomorrow at what condition it is in.
I think I've found one which has the last three numbers different to mine, it's 66.21 - 6 982 387, where as mine is 66.21 - 6 982 402. I'm assuming it's the first couple of numbers that are the important ones to match?

You want to match all 11 digits, the first few just mean 'Vehicle Electrical System, Modules', or something along those lines.

If you buy the wrong one, you might find the coding isn't compatible. :(

Hi there!

I'm brand new to the forum and bmw ownership!

My pdc is not beeping but I don't have any lights on, could this be the water ingress issue?

My car is a 120d se 2005 manual.

Many thanks in advance!

John
It would be best to remove the boot panel and have a look it most likely will be the water issue tho!

Thanks for the reply cubs1!!!

I have removed the pdc control module and as expected it was slightly damp but only a few drips and by no means submersed.

I dried it off with a hair dryer and re fitted it but still no beeping in reverse :-(

Iv took it back out and it's now in the airing cupboard in rice and I'll leave it there for a couple of days.

I did notice that it has already had this repair before as there was evidence of seal repair and the date stamp on the Bosch pdc control unit was 2009 and it is a 2005 vehicle.

I'll update you when it's out of the airing cupboard tomorrow!

Merry christmas all!!

Hopefully it will work after it's had time to fully dry out, mine was left submerged in a pool of water for 2 weeks and still worked after it was dried so they are pretty robust!

You have removed the pcb from the case?

Also if it doesn't work and you require a new unit be sure to get a direct replacement (exact part number match) as different numbers can cause issues and still not work.

Hi cubz,

Yes hopefully it'll sort the problem!

Yes I've removed it from the case. Just for my info when the system works, where does the beeping come from? Does it come from the radio speakers or is there a specific speaker just for the pdc beeps?

I have also put my ear against all four parking sensors (before I removed the pdc module) and all four were clicking quietly in case this suggests anything?

Cheers,

John

Hi, the clicking indicates the sensors are working so a good sign and as far as the sound there is a separate PDC sounder located near the rear o/s speaker.

Help! I followed these excellent instructions to find why mine wasn't working. Simple reason, the PDC control unit is missing!
Ive looked on realoem but not sure which part number refers to my car? can someone help a thicko out? I have pro HU no nav, is there any other info needed?
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Usually the old module part number is used to order a replacement, as this is not on hand for you it would be best to contact your local bmw parts department and see if they are any help in identifying which module you require as there are many different ones available.

Do you have front and rear PDC or just rear? (Modules are different)

See how you get on with them if they are no use give bmminiparts a try, explain the situation and see if they can locate the correct part!

Hi all,

Hope you've all had a lovely christmas.

Re fitted my bone dry pdc unit back to the car and still no beeping, no warning on the display but not beeping, other than from my mouth!!!

Couldn't find the beeper speaker/sounder, any more specific location for this??

All the best

John
