G48 Coolant life vs Waterpump life - Preventative Maintenance

Has anyone replaced the coolant in their M-Lite yet?

As I understand it (and I don't really - I'm no chemist), BMW use a HOAT coolant known as Glysantin G48. I believe the active additives in G48 have a service life of 3 - 4 years (any chemists on here?), after which expensive components (waterpump) can become prone to degradation/failure.

As changing the coolant should be cheap & easy DIY, it seems like a no-brainer to refresh it every 3 years. Does the N55 coolant system have a nice convenient drain point somewhere, or am I pulling pipes?

I've been thinking about doing this at some point too. BMW think it's lifetime fill but I'll not be taking my chances.

On F3x cars you pull the hose off the bottom of the rad to drain. F2x cars are probably the same. The car has a built in self bleed system as well, where you open the bleed screw and run a bleed cycle. I can't remember the exact method of launching it but it involves something like turning on ignition, pressing accelerator a certain amount of time and having heating set a certain way. There are threads on bimmerpost forums about it.
