Changed the reluctor rings on the rear and its solved the issue for a bit but now when I drive over 60mph the traction flashes intermittently. Is it worth changing the abs sensors also ?

Hi, recently got myself an 05 plate E87 and I've found that I'm having the same issues as those mentioned above. ABS lights, handbrake lights and DSC/DTC lights were continously ON.I tried to disable DSC/DTC by following steps in user manual however coudnt disable it. The car used to jugger a lot while slowing and braking. Took it to the mechanic and he replaced the rear driveshaft with new ring and sensor. ABS lights, handbrake lights and DSC/DTC lights were gone. However sometimes while driving the lights again turns ON and the car starts juggering and slowing down randomly. I had to push hard accelerate padel to make it work. Due to this I am avoiding motorways now-a-days. Took it to the mechanic again even after diagnosing couldnt find the reason of these lights turning ON ramdomly up. As a work around when the lights turns ON I had to stop the car remove keys and then the lights are gone after turning the car back ON.

What could be the reason for these lights turning ON randomly?

Only thing I can think of now it the front reluctors ?

I have the dtc light on. I am not sure what the reluctor ring should look like maybe it is completely missing. Pedal shudder when braking normally feels like abs. Can anyone help. I bought this car with this problem so I don't know history of it.

The ladder in your photo is the ring. Any shiny areas on them? Witnesses of contact?

Brake judder when stopping normally is usually a brake disc problem - uneven deposits of pad material or mis-mounted.

Hi,

I recently tried to change my rear reluctor rings but couldn't get my seized driveshaft out for the life of me! I tried everything and managed to knock them out around 5mm max. Even gentle heat wouldn't work, I didn't want to apply too much heat incase the bearings became damaged.

If anyone has any suggestions or advice on how to get the shafts out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there I've recently picked up a 2004 e87, 118d, and have started having these issues. I've had a look online and every site I've been on says that all 1 series from this time are rear wheel drive. However mine is not, it is front wheel drive. Does this mean the reluctor rings will be on the front wheels?
Also after I've been driving a while the front right break will begin squeaking when braking and driving, sounds like something needs replaced any pointers? I assume it's the brake pads rubbing on the disc. Any help would be appreciated :)

BMW did not make any front wheel drive E87. Who converted yours to FWD?

If it's that much of a chopped up Franken-car, who knows where the reluctor rings are, or even if there are any.

Ahahah brilliant I did think that was the case. I have no idea who has changed it to front wheel drive, it's had a few owners. Think I've got more than I've bargained for with this car.
Looks like I'll have to make it up as I go along, Fingers crossed they are there and theres nothing else to wrong with the car
Thanks for your help

Amazed anyone would convert an E87 to FWD, which engine does it have currently?! Obviously not a BMW engine/gearbox anymore.

It's still got it's original engine m47 i think, and as far as I can tell and I'd say it's the same for the gearbox, I haven't had a look at it yet, going to get under it tonight if I have time to get a good look at what is actually going on down there

M47 engine is longitudinal, and can only send power to the rear wheels.

What makes you think yours is front wheel drive?! :?

Okay interesting, it could be a different engine I'm Farley new to BMWs so don't know the different engines that well. I'm like 90% sure it's the original engine, looks identical to other 118ds. But if it can only send power to the rear then maybe I'm wrong. The lad who sold it to me told me it was front. I also went to a gravely bit of road and did a small wheel spin to see where the tracks would be and it did look like it was the front ones that were spinning. I haven't done a thorough check so I could be wrong. I'll try get under the car tonight and see what's really going on. I hope I'm wrong on the wheel drive. I am pretty sure it is an m47 tho. But it could have been swapped I wouldn't know the difference, any ideas what it might have been swapped to if it is front wheel drive?

Thank you so much for your help so far guys!!

If someone wanted to change it to front drive, it would need a donor FWD engine, ECU, gearbox, driveshafts, CV joints, hubs, electrics, etc. An almost impossible, hugely expensive task, just to make the car dynamically worse.

Occam's razor would suggest the previous owner was an idiot, or mis-spoke.
