Hey guys..
I did a quick search but couldnt find much on here, other than a thread over on the M40/35i section.

So this new E10 (10% ethenol). Is it for any concern for those of us that run 'normal' unleaded rather than the 'super' unleaded.
I'm no fuel expert.

Current 'normal' has 5% ethenol added to it to make up the 95RON rating?
The new E10 will have 10% ethenol.. Super unleaded will not change I hear.

Is that of concern to our older engines in the E8x cars, so we need to start using super?
Specifically the 130i B52 in my case.

We haven't noticed any fuel economy drop in my other half's 125i over the last week or so since that's been running on E10.

I still tend to check super in my 130i, more out of habit than anything else although that might change as it gets ever more expensive.

It's going to be hardly anything really maybe a few percent as ethanol needs roughly 30-35 percent more volume than petrol
But we are talking 30 percent extra for the 5percent extra ethanol
So it will probably drop by about 2percent but that's the difference between being stuck fo an extra minute or two in your daily commute

I had to use E10 for the first time last week at my local Jet station. My 2009 116i always seemed to be sensitive to different petrol and performs better on Jet than Shell or BP.

In any event it hasn't liked the E10 whatsoever. After a few days of use I started to notice obvious pinging at idle. I had to do a motorway trip from Manchester to Leeds and it was sluggish overtaking. On the way back I had the same issues in town traffic and it was getting worse. I pulled into the nearest petrol station (Texaco) and used premium, and within about 10 minutes the car was back to normal.

It doesn't make much of a noise to pick up on a video. In my instance it happens when coming to a stop from 30+ mph. You can feel it returning to idle slightly 'off' (but difficult to describe) then after a few seconds it would miss a beat and the car dip to the left when doing so, before recovering back to normal. It all happens in a second.

I tried Jet fuel once and never again. It must be one of the lowest quality fuels in the UK and it's price reflects this. I had an instant loss of power and the MPG suffered massively. Even the supermarket fuels are of a much higher quality.

I've found that our 6 cylinders BMWs run far better on 98/99 Ron fuel. If your car has a remap it probably has to be run on 98/99 Ron. I once had to fill up on 95 Ron with a previous N52 I had that had a remap and it ran terribly until I could put from 99 Ron in it, stuttering, lumpy, did not sound happy.

I find my 130 seems a tad happier on super than on boggo unleaded. Chucking super in is have it really having only ever used that in my 140.

It all feels pretty silly to me brewing food crops to water-down dinosaur juice when the world's getting pushed into EVs over the next ten years anyway.
I'm sticking with the 99 E5 for now but I'm only low milage so I get concern of others.

e82 125i pre-LCI

Is it more expensive wear u live? Its about 4-5p more where I live?
I think you mean premium\super unleaded. E10 is the new standard grade fuel but your premium\super grades won't be affected, it's usually those that are at least 5p per litre more expensive. I'm sure last time I filled up it was about 15p more.
