Climate control defaults to off when car is started ?

Wonder if anyone has experienced the same.

Had coded the car such that previous climate control settings should be retained. Worked fine.

This week my wife has reported her M135i has the climate control is always off when she starts the car, irrespective of how it was left when she turned off the ignition. Works fine when turned back on, but seems a bit odd.

Anyone else had the same experience?

Thanks

Did you say you had to code the car to remember the previous settings? I thought they came from the factory like this?

Also my old 1er used to remember each keys last climate settings, so if I used the spare key (only I drove it) then the climate came on at a different temperature than if I used my main key.

Has your wife inadvertantly swapped to the other key?

Not that I am aware. The spare key is firmly under lock and key.

Reading around, climate control not remembering the last setting seems to be one of the big frustrations with the F20.

Looking online I found some reference to the climate control not coming on on startup if the outside temp was sub zero, although this was for an F30 I think.

Its not like its a big issue, just more curious as to why the change of behaviour.

Seems strange - ours always comes on at the last setting, along with the last radio station/audio used (usb, cd etc) and volume. It's key dependent and will remember the last setting used for each key.

It's a 1 previous owner car - maybe they had it coded or something, but it seems odd that it would turn itself off. Could the battery be going flat in the key or something, so it's not remembering? Or a key fault in general?

Old thread but seems related.

First nuisance I've found with the F20. Every time I get in the car I have to cycle through to get air blowing up at the windscreen, the car doesn't remember previous settings.

I know the previous owner has done some coding (alarm beep, sound symposer off, door handles lights on in reverse). Is this something that can be coded, for the car to remember or resort to default every time?

Or am I just missing something altogether? :chin:

Two thoughts:
1. Could this be caused by a dodgy key battery? I seem to remember a BMW of mine ages back which did the aircon off thing when I went to use the spare key which had not been used in 3 years.
2. Issue with service reset not being right - again I recall cars which came back from a service with 'default' settings on things like aircon. However they did seem to 'remember' after settings were reselected.

Finally got round to trying this yesterday evening with carly. In IHKA 'save circulation settings' turned it 'on', had a short period of flashing lights/climate control looking busy while it was coding. Success!

Got in the car this morning, hasn't remembered :x
Is your battery healthy? The car will cut power to non-essential circuits if it's dying.

Without checking as yet, I can only say I should hope so. It's only just over 2 years old.

I've taken that onboard however and must confess that when I first coded it I did get the low voltage warning message.

I've tried again, this time with the car running. I'll soon find out if it's worked or not. Funnily enough though when I got carly to read the IHKA today it is saying that 'save circulation settings' is turned on, despite not actually memorising them! At least not this morning anyway.

Hadn't driven the car since the Friday evening. Drove it this morning and it seems the air circulation settings have not been remembered
I'll give it more time/tries, I'm pretty sure I know how I left them, but just to be sure.

So while sat in a car park this morning tried Carly to read the battery voltage in parameters, started monitoring...
Ignition off= 0V
Ignition on= 0V
Engine on= 0V

Beginning to wonder if Carly and my car just don't get along. I just grabbed a multimeter anyway, ignition off, across the terminals I got 12.58V.

Not sure what the next step is really... contact Carly support!? Or try bimmercode? Previous owner left a Vgate OBD tool in the car, he'd coded a number of things, presumably with bimmercode, so that should work :?
