I've started this thread for people who have actually had experience of mapping their car using bluefin.

I've read probably 10 different treads on this forum on bluefin and each thread contains one person saying bluefin leaves error codes. Next poster says no it doesn't. Next poster is slagging of the fact it doesn't reset the ECU counter, another poster say the ECU doesn't have a ECU counter....

It seems that there is loads of people who are basically guessing at these issues rather than actually having a technical knowledge of the product. I've emailed superchips to get some of these questions answered (no response as of yet)

I have previously bluefin'd my old Audi A3 when the product first came out. It was rolling roaded down at there HQ and I loved it. My only complaint was the black smoke out of the back - but I ran it for 40,000miles no problems. So this is obviously my first port of call for getting my car remapped. I still have the unit and will probably do my current 123d.

So, this is kind of a post for people who have bluefin'd their cars - It would be useful to gather real experiences, power delivery, problems, warrenty issues, insurances issues and general day to day running after bluefinning the car....

I'm happy for people to bring to the table the Error code and ECU counter problems - but rather than just saying it does this - explain how you know it does this and provide some form of technical explaination.

Ok, I'll kick off. I bought my Bluefin 3rd hand, Initially 'BlackBMW120d's, then 'Ant's. If you're considering buying a used Bluefin, make very sure it's been reset by Superchips. I'm told a 2nd hand Bluefin which hasn't been reset by Superchips is basically worthless.

The process of remapping took about half an hour total. 10 mins to download my original map, then a bit of uploading/downloading on my PC, than another 10 mins plugged into the OBDII. Job done. :D

It gave mine another 20% power, by my bum-o-meter. Also made it smokier than before, under full accelerator.

Driving normally it makes little difference to my mpg, but when having fun it looses at least 2mpg, which is only to be expected. Squirting more fuel in uses more fuel, shocker!

My only proper complaint is mine isn't capable of reading/resetting fault codes, as advertised? Superchips said mine must be trying to communicate using a different line, and basically I was out of luck. :| They did try to help though, so I can't complain about their level of aftercare.

I've has Superchips maps on numerous cars and with all but my 320d auto been very, very happy.

As for codes - Superchips told me it cleared all main engine ECU error codes created by the Bluefin reflash process ...

I used the Bluefin device after checking my car with a professional Bosch diagnostics computer I have access to. Prior to Bluefin reflash the car was error code free. After the reflash by the Bluefin device loading the uprated map it had no error codes on the main engine ECU. The Bluefin device had seemingly cleared any there. What was left was two other error codes in the ABS ECU and the auto gearbox ECU. Both related to a loss of communication between the main ECU and that particular ECU - something I am told happens when the main ECU is reflashed ... the other ECU's lose communication with it.

I cleared these codes and reflashed back to standard .... then checked again. Again, the same codes for lack of communication came up having put it back to standard. I cleared them and the car remained standard until I sold it.

So, yes, it does leave error codes - on my car 2 ... but did exactly what Superchips told me. They said their unit wouldn't clear all codes but would clear most .... exactly what my checks found.

Excellent - this is exactly the kind of thing i wanted - real life experiences - and actual facts rather than "Some bloke down the pub told me".

I personally think this makes the tread far more useful to people who actually want to go down this route...
