Totally not a waste of money. On my old M135i I coded enhanced Bluetooth (£350 option) so that in itself more than paid for it. I then fitted a pro nav screen and coded that to work plus all the other little things like splash screen and start stop memory.
That's great when you out of warranty. And I'm sure I would research the BimmerCode options further. But a risk of voiding warranty and tiny amount of options in a base mode does make it look like a waste of money.

Agree with SkyCity - I wouldn't risk it whilst still in warranty.

That's a reasonable position to take. I don't know about other parts of the world, but consumer protections in Australia are good, and BMW Australia's reputation is pretty good on these matters. They were excellent on the Takata airbag recalls - vehicle buybacks and paying for Uber's whilst they waiting on replacement parts. That's why I didn't consider the equivalent VW, Audi or Merc offerings, as their reputations are not as good.

You are not altering the vehicle or causing it to operate in a way it wasn't designed. All Bimmercode and equivalents do is access the already present software configuration parameters and changing the default settings. It's not like you're playing with the boost levels or overriding the rev limiter. If you brick the software module due to a reprogramming error fair call, but if my transmission dies it is completely unrelated and I'd call upon the local consumer commission to enforce the warranty if BMW didn't.

I'm waiting for you guys in the SW of the UK to become coding experts so I can pick on someone local to me to do some enhancement on my car [emoji16]
Bish (a member on here) is Bristol way and is a whizz with Carly. Send him a DM and I'm sure he'll respond.

Good to know, although only go over that way for work and at the moment we're all not allowed to travel due to covid, appreciate the heads up though.

Depends on the dealer I guess, the one from that post was being difficult.

My car is in the dealers all the time and obviously coded but they don't care so far, even with stuff under warranty.
The dealer gets paid by BMW for Warranty work, so why would they want to turn away business? There's no benefit to the dealer to deny your warranty service unless it's something that could reflect poorly on them in case of a future problem. I had a Lexus SC400 years ago and they were eager to fix things that didn't really need to be fixed.

I really want to disable start stop and also change the default drive mode to sports Individual however it just seems really expensive to buy the app and then buy a cable just to do this. Hence i havent bothered.
WHats the cheapest way just to do this?

I still have the Bimmercode on my old mobile from 2+ years ago and an old adapter. I tried to code a few things on my car last week and most options say i need to buy another adapter :( i tried the old 1 and was able to switch stop/start to remember last setting which means it's now alwats deactivated until i ress the button to activate it again (y)

For anyone contemplating buying Bimmercode/Bimmerlink, or replacing an elderly adapter, the best option is an ENET cable (OBD to Ethernet) plus a suitable Ethernet adapter for your iPhone or Android device. Cheaper than most plug-in adapters, faster, and supports all BC options. This cable also supports OBD to PC Ethernet if you want to use E-Sys.

do any of these apps allow free start stop removal and default drive mode change?

Stop/start cancel is apparently available but it doesn't do anything on my M135iX. Stop/start memory works OK as it remembers the last setting when you start the car. However, if you switch to Eco mode, S/s turns on again, although it returns to whatever you had set in Comfort mode. I believe S/s is always OFF in Sport.

Startup driving mode change is available but I've never used it to verify its function.

If you want to browse the full BC offering go here: BimmerCode for BMW and MINI - Coding your BMW, MINI or Toyota Supra made simple. and check what's offered on your own model. Select: Supported Cars / Compatibility.

Hi cjn
I'm in this very position with BC. Have you any links to the cable and adapter please? I'm on android if it makes a difference and pre lci e87.
I've seen the veepeak which looks reasonably priced but doesn't support pre 2008 models.

Hi, it was a fair while ago that I bought these (adapter for iOS) but Amazon have a good selection of ENET cables and Android adapters. Advantage there is that return is usually painless if you're not happy. Also, have you checked the BC website for compatibility with your car? If any of the OBD adapters work then the ENET cable should be fine.
