BimmerCode waste of money?

Hi guys,

So I got myself OBDCheck BLE scan tool which was $AUD60 and purchased the BimmerCode app which was another $AUD50.

I think I played with it in total for about 10min. All I did is disable start/stop, put an M logo on the nav screen and looked at different graphics for the pro screen.

Apart from that my opinion is that the BimmerCode is a bit of waste of money for a rooki user like me. So before you spend the money think if it's worth it.

There's lots more you can do, I've been very happy with my purchase, about £50 all in.

Ignition off on door open, alarm sound, windows up hen door open, puddle lights in reverse, increased sensitivity wipers.

I only used expert mode for iDrive 6.

Ok. Thanks guys. I wasn't brave enough to as around in the expert mode. Apparently you can mess up ecu if you don't know what you're doing.
Even in basic mode, just take your time and do one module at a time.

Great!

All I did was changing the logo and disabling the start/stop. If I revert those changes will they still be able to see that I was messing around with it and void my warranty?
Depends on the dealer I guess, the one from that post was being difficult.

My car is in the dealers all the time and obviously coded but they don't care so far, even with stuff under warranty.

The dealer gets paid by BMW for Warranty work, so why would they want to turn away business? There's no benefit to the dealer to deny your warranty service unless it's something that could reflect poorly on them in case of a future problem. I had a Lexus SC400 years ago and they were eager to fix things that didn't really need to be fixed.

Not a great recommendation, then.
:lol2: Probably should have worded that differently!!

I meant I use the main dealer for everything, servicing, tyres, MOT and any warranty work. I know them all really well and they know my car, although the only warranty items it's had was a new backbox for the exhaust rattle and also a rear caliper as they couldn't get the bleed nipple open when doing the brake fluid.

They know it's coded, because I have the alarm beep on lock/unlock, and the folding/unfolding mirrors so it's obvious as soon as they get in the car but they've never mentioned anything during any work, including for it's major service last week.

That's not to say it doesn't happen though as we know.

Alarm beep on lock/unlock and mirrors folding/unfolding on lock/unlock are standard functions on the Car/Settings/Doors_Vehicle Access menu.

In an F40 yes, in an F22 no. :)

Sorry - confused because this is the F40 forum.
It was more to point out that some BMW dealers are ok with coding, rather than anything model specific.

Totally not a waste of money. On my old M135i I coded enhanced Bluetooth (£350 option) so that in itself more than paid for it. I then fitted a pro nav screen and coded that to work plus all the other little things like splash screen and start stop memory.

Bimmercode is excellent and well worth the money.

I've set up the auto start/stop, removed the display warning at startup, changed the air recirculation settings, added the extra exhaust noise setting to the menu.

And then I was annoyed by the seat belt chime warning at startup because I start the engine before I put my seatbelt on. It wasn't an option so I emailed Bimmercode about it, at their request I lodged a support ticket and the next day I was enrolled to testflight a beta version that removed the chime. It all worked perfectly and promptly with custom support. I cant praise them enough and well worth the money.

However, it did cost me more than expected as I didn't read their site properly and purchased an OBD adapter that wasn't fully functional... so therefore I have more than one adapter now!

Which adapter is suitable? I bought a veepeak OBDcheck BLE, it doesn't connect to all modules😠🙄

There are two ways to find compatible adapters on the web page. If you click "OBD adapters" on the home page it shows all the adapters and which series they suit. Or if you check through the "Supported car" route it will let you bring up the adapters for that specific car.

Compatible adapters for the F40 are:

It seems that the F40 requires an adapter for the G series, not the F series... I would therefore recommend you look through the supported car path.

I ended up with the OBDLink MX+. It gets to all the modules.

That's great when you out of warranty. And I'm sure I would research the BimmerCode options further. But a risk of voiding warranty and tiny amount of options in a base mode does make it look like a waste of money.

Agree with SkyCity - I wouldn't risk it whilst still in warranty.

That's a reasonable position to take. I don't know about other parts of the world, but consumer protections in Australia are good, and BMW Australia's reputation is pretty good on these matters. They were excellent on the Takata airbag recalls - vehicle buybacks and paying for Uber's whilst they waiting on replacement parts. That's why I didn't consider the equivalent VW, Audi or Merc offerings, as their reputations are not as good.

You are not altering the vehicle or causing it to operate in a way it wasn't designed. All Bimmercode and equivalents do is access the already present software configuration parameters and changing the default settings. It's not like you're playing with the boost levels or overriding the rev limiter. If you brick the software module due to a reprogramming error fair call, but if my transmission dies it is completely unrelated and I'd call upon the local consumer commission to enforce the warranty if BMW didn't.

I'm waiting for you guys in the SW of the UK to become coding experts so I can pick on someone local to me to do some enhancement on my car [emoji16]
Bish (a member on here) is Bristol way and is a whizz with Carly. Send him a DM and I'm sure he'll respond.

Good to know, although only go over that way for work and at the moment we're all not allowed to travel due to covid, appreciate the heads up though.
