Approaching 100k, what do I need to include in the service?

Hi Guys,

I have a 120d.

Since purchasing it last year with 69000 on the clock I have managed to rack up the miles to 95000.

During this time, the car was serviced by a non BMW dealer when I bought it.

And then again at approx 85000 by a local mechanic.

The majority of the miles i have covered have been motorway miles.

During the last service the mechanic only changed the oil and the air filer.

Can you please tell me what I should be getting changed now?

And what oil is best to put in the car?

I can get oil on my company fuel card so cost is no issue.

Up until now I have had no problems whatsoever with the car (touch wood). And I am eager to keep on top of the servicing to keep things that way, specially with the miles creeping up.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Regards,

Greg

what year is it?

I'd get the gearbox oil changed if its a manual as there is no set service life for this,

also look at the cost of getting the timing chain tensioner replaced as these have a tendency to go after 100k and then the bill gets big, engine out to sort....

I'd ask the service guys to check the bushes on the suspension as well, I'm at 162,000 and still completely original bushes throughout,

Thanks for the response.

The car is 2006.

I have noticed the gear box becoming a little "sticky" when selecting the first gear, could this be due to not having the oil replaced?

I will go to my mechanic with a list of what I would like doing. So far I have....

1) gear box oil
2) differential oil
3) engine oil
4) suspension bushes checking

Do I need the following changing....

plugs, air filter, cam belt?

I have also being close to buyin a bottle of that "high mileage diesel addative" from halford in the past. Is this worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Greg

Lol.

You have a timing chain, rather than a cam belt, shouldn't need changing.

The air filter only needs doing every 50 - 60k (it's a big unit, and a proper pain to change).

Maybe the fuel filter?

Change/service your brake fluid, brakes, microfilter, etc, as per your CBS.

Your fuel filler cap should say 'No additives' on it, so leave the Halfords diesel gunk on the shelf. I've found putting four or five consecutive tankfuls of Shell V Power cleans the fuel system/injectors quite nicely though.

All the 1 series gearboxes have quite a positive/clunky nature to them, but a change of gearbox oil might help a little.

Even though it has a timing chain i would still replace the tensioners as one of the above post mentioned. Someone on here said that there's failed at about 120K miles.

Probably worth doing the polyn filter and rad coolant change and oil breather also. If it was me id also de gunk the egr valve. Fuel filter you should do. If you do intend to do the breather filter do the air filter also as you have to get access to that area anyways. Get your belts checked also ; power steering, alternator, etc.
