Hello Folks.

I thought I would share my experience with Adrian Flux insurance this morning.

First of all let me start by giving you a bit of a background:-

I was happily insured with Adrian Flux and thought they were great and quick to react. I was driving a 330ci (insurance £600) with 2 years no claims this year which I sold mid policy and changed the car to a ford KA (run around until the new one is delivered). I was refunded around £100. All good and happy.

Today I call up Flux to prepare for the delivery of my M135i which I am being quoted circa £400-£500 by other insurers. So I go through the change your car on your policy routine and I am told the cost to insure the car to the end of the policy which is only 2 months will cost me £360!! and the annual quote is £1350. Of course I am not happy so I said I would call back.

I called back 10 minutes later and told them I want to cancel my current policy and start a new one and what do you know with the same company (equity red star) the quote is £450. Obviously in doing this I lose my years no claims its an absolute JOKE!!!

Any Flux reps on here ? Why do you do this to your customers, you have selected a customer as wanting something (my 1 years no claims) and expect me to pay double for it ? Its not the first time i have heard of this either.

Anyone any advise on how to proceed ?

Regards
Chris

Aren't AF just a brokerage? So with the underwriter of the current policy, they'll be the ones that quote £360 for 2 months. Your insurance contract is with that underwriter, not AF so whatever they quote is what you must pay for the remainding time to get your NCB.

In this respect, by cancelling you may lose 1 years NCB, but with 2 years NCB you're getting a quote of £450? For the sake of 1 years NCB, i'd cancel your current policy and take out a new one for £450.

If I go into the new policy with 3 years NCD it will be cheaper than with 2 by around £50. although i do see what you are saying but why when i call flux up to start a new policy is it £450 ??

As i said your current policy is with underwriter xxx. That is FIXED until your policy ends. By calling for a new policy, they can explore all the options available to get you the lowest quote on the market.

Effectively, new quote=200 companies, change to existing quote=1 company

NCD seems a bit irrelevant, if ignoring it saves you £900 (£1350 vs £450).
^^this. I babbled too much lol

Very True. Most likely the route I will go down.

still a bit pissed of at AF. All quotes through AF used equity red star.

Can i cut AF out and go direct to equity red star and ask whats going on ? (they are also my current insurer.)

The £450 quote they cam back with was with the same company i am currently insured with (equity red star).

Sounds a bit strange. Ive had it before where ive changed cars mid policy and had the choice either to pay a huge amount to stay with existing company and therefore get another years ncb, or cancel policy half way through and move to another company.

In actual fact I had to do exactly that a few months back and got stung by a massive "early cancellation" fee. I was paying £65 a year to insure my Yamaha R1 with Company 1. I then wanted to add my Ducati 996 to the policy. Company 1 wanted to increase the premium to £350 even though both bikes would be third party only and I can only ride one at once. Also the 996 is a slower bike than the R1 so really it would all be a much lower risk to them. However as usual its not about risk as far as insurance companies are concerned, its about how they can make more money.

I then shop around and find another company who will insure both for £120. So still twice as expensive as having 1 bike but i feel £120 is still acceptable. So, I ring up Company 1 to cancel, expecting maybe a small refund as im only 4 months into a 12 month policy having paid up front. Amazingly they then tell me that they can cancel but I will owe them £60 in early cancellation fees and other claw backs. Unfortunately I couldnt just let the policy run as id need the NCB for the new policy, so only choice was to pay the fee, meaning id forked out £125 simply for 4 months insurance compared to the £65 for the whole year.

Never had a good experience with Flux unfortunately. Trouble is, there aren't many mod friendly insurance companies out there for the M135i. :(

Greenlight em won't touch them.
Brentacre won't either.
Flux were horrendously expensive for me, even with 8 years NCD, they quoted over £1100 on a new policy.

I'm paying £300 via Esure through confused.com, so the car will have to stay mod free till renewal.

In actual fact ive been insured with Flux a few times over the years and didnt have any problems. When I got my 350z Roadster, even though I had over 20 years NCB on my car, the insurance quotes I was getting were around the £1200 mark! Compared to £190 I was paying on my Golf TD GTI. It was astronomical. I was getting quotes for £500 for Porsche Boxters, £600 for E46 M3, but for a 350z insurance companies were being silly. In the end Adrian Flux came in at about £900 which was the cheapest so I went with them. One thing I liked was that they also didnt charge admin fees for stuff like changing number plate to a private one. Some companies want £50 per change etc.

When I got my 123d, Adrian Flux couldnt match the price I was getting else where, so I moved elsewhere.
