Fellas, my idrive says my front and rear pads need replacing in next 2000 miles. I have covered 30500 in the car (62 plate). How long should brake pads last? Driving is a mix of motorway and town centre driving i am by no means a petrol head, as you can tell by the car i drive!!

I am booked in for an end of warranty inspection & MOT in 2 weeks

Any advice would be appreciated.

Entirely depends on your driving style, and varies hugely as a result.

On my 130i, I changed the front pads at ~50k and the rears at ~65k. I've seen people on here report having to change pads every 20k or less.

If the warning light is out, it means that the sensor needs o be replaced as well. Not sure if GBP 160 includes that. It sounds a tab too cheap, IMHO.

Thanks, booked in for an inspection at a local Indy next week. ÂŁ160 if they need replacing. Competitor along the estate quoted ÂŁ260. Big difference.

Spoke to them it doesn't include the sensor another ÂŁ40 on top. Managed to have a look at the outer pads myself using a torch, got approx 5mm left on each pad, what's the point when it's deemed too low?

I don't know about the required thickness of the pads... but two things Bro:-

1) When the warning light comes out, it last another 4000 to 5000km max on my previous E series rides; and

2) I really wouldn't pinch any pennies on brakes and tyres...Changing it a few thousand KM earlier may save my life and who ever in front of me.

my 2 pennies worth

That's exactly what I'm trying to do. Pinch pennies I'm terminating the agreement in a few months, so ideally want to stay away from any additional outlay. Totally agree with what your saying though!

Ironically I needed the same question answering haha.
Going to be taking on the task myself though so what pads do you guys recommend ? Bosh, Mintex actually BMW parts ?

My front and rears needed changing recently after 33k, warning saying it needed changing came on at about 31.5k, I mainly drive around London but do the odd motorway journey. I got BMW to do the work as it was in for warranty work anyway but can't remember the cost.

From new on the idrive I think pad life is estimated at around 32k miles - this will then adjust dependant on driving style
