Morning All

Just a quick one, appreciate this has been done to death.

Currently have halogen headlight unit, they have levelling motors (presume this is standard)

My question is, if I buy Xenon headlamps (OEM BMW) whilst I wouldn't have the washers which I know are a legal/mot requirement. I'm presuming I would have the motors and this would be fine to use/the same as the Xenon motors ?

So would then it be a plug and play scenario of swapping my current units for the xenons and then there will be light ! or is there any additional wiring/electrics which are required.

Hope that makes sense !!

Cheers

You don't have the self levelling system unfortunately. All our lights blink up and down on start up but you won't have the levelling rods on the suspension arms.

It's not plug and play either. A rewire is required. Last time I checked this job came in at £1800 fitted.

Mihad1 fitted Xenons to a car with Halogens. I believe he went without washers/levelling arms and did some wiring & coding. IIRC it was cheaper than £1800 :).

So I'm guessing you did what I plan on doing and maybe didn't explain correctly...
Get the lights from a donor car so obviously saving a fortune there but my only concern is the extra wiring and what is needed don't care about the washers really !

I'll explain what I did and give a 'mini' how to..

If you plug in the Xenon Headlight onto your stock halogen car, only the Angel Eyes will light up.
For the Xenon & the Bi-Xenon Shutter to work they need power.

There is also a pin from the connector (the thing that you plug into the headlight from the car's end) that needs to be relocated, this is for the high beam. (2min job).

I tapped the power off the angel eyes as they were working when I plugged it in. So after re-connecting with the car, the Xenon & Shutter worked, but the xenon was flickering. With the help of Wibbles, I coded the car to have Xenon's & all was working perfectly! OEM Xenon's working :)

The only thing is that if you select the sidelight option on your car, the xenon bulb will flicker unless you put the dipped beams on too. This can be solved by powering up the xenon anywhere else apart from the angel eyes. I may do this someday, but it doesn't bug me and I drive with my full xenons on anyway. (5min fix)

Hope this helps :)
