Yes. Buy genuine ones. There a few parts that require OEM quality and this is a good example.

Ok thanks, are valeo ballast genuine oem ?
I can't tell you without looking at mine but I expect so.

What were the ones you bought? If they were 'valeo' it's possible that they weren't actuslly valeo ones.

Have you checked the lsiting you bought them from about warranty? There should be atleast a year's warranty on a product like that.

Water ingress won't be covered under warranty unless there is a fault with the metal casing? As I posted earlier........ the cover which covers the wiring under the headlamp where the ballast sits is prone to holding water. Once it is up to a high enough level it will have no problem entering the ballast. I took them out, sprayed them with electrical contact cleaner inside then gave them a good shake to get as much moisture out as possible then leave them to dry. While there are drying, drill a couple of 10mm drainage holes in the covers that cover the wiring looms where they connect to the ballasts and they will never fill with water again. Simple.

Interesting, I might have to look into this. My lights are condesating quite regularly now (especially after rain) so this might be related.

What's involved in getting to this is it a headlight out job?

Yes. Very quick and easy...... bumper off, headlights out and get to work on removing the ballasts and modify the covers........ mine packed up twice during heavy rain, I then modified the covers on the underside of the headlights and after drying out the ballasts re-fitted it all and never had another issue

The four holes I drilled are easily seen in the image below:

The plastic cover my finger is on is held in pace and with torx screws. When you take it off, look at the design flaw. It's like an empty bucket waiting to fill up with water and then fill up the ballast with water which then causes the ballast to short out and switch off. I shook as much of the water out of the ballast then filled it with electrical contact cleaner. Then shook out as much of that as I could then let the ballast dry out. It worked for me.
