Hi all, looking for some advice on upgrading my exhaust.

I'm thinking either the BMW Performance exhaust or a custom exhaust. JP Exhausts in Macclesfield aren't far away, and I've heard good things about them. Seen on hear an exhaust done by Powerspeed (I think) which sounded really good.

Are there any issues with a custom exhaust with the mid box taken out. Will any warning lights show up for example.

What are peoples thoughts? Stick with the safe and proven performance exhaust, or go for something a bit different?

Cheers

What car do you have? 135i? 116d?

Why not add some car details to your signature to save us asking every time? :)

Sorry, thats some pretty key info.

It's a 2007 130i. I'll have a look at adding it to the signature.

Most people seem to go for the performance exhaust. Is a custom one a big risk, just in case it sounds crap.

Performance exhaust is deffo the best sounding 'off the shelf' exhaust you can buy and its not that expensive in the grand scheme of things either (£430 ish). No questions asked in my mind. It's also pretty loud as well, as in, on full chat it's loud, but cruising is quiet enough to remain subtle. Plus the tips look epic as well.

Custom systems have come out well on the 130 too. But it's a mixed bag and there isn't a real saving (if any) over the performance exhaust when you include the cost of getting something made up which does add to the risk factor.

That said I've got a 135i backbox and a y pipe to delete the centre resonator sat in the garage waiting to be fitted to my LE which will sound good. I'll dig out the videos of people with this set up. Sounds awsome, touch louder than the PE I think too but with the same kind of aggression.

Depends how keen you are to get it all set up. I was thinking of making a second set up which would be identical and ready to bolt on to sell on the forum but I'm not sure if that will materialise.

There's a thread somewhere I'll find it for you in the morning.

Can't remember whether I've seen it on this forum or not - has no one cracked open the backbox and tried to mod it to BMWP spec? They're into that sort of thing on e90 post IIRC, might be an interesting project for someone?

I really want the performance exhaust and intake but struggling to justify the cost!

I'm having a custom catback made tomorrow on my 2010 116i LCI (2.0). By EMP Performance . It'll look like the BMWP exhaust but be completely custom made in stainless steel.
How much they charging you bud? Might get my tips changed to the BMWP style, happy with the sound of mine

£350 if the cat is in the middle of the car. If the cat is in the manifold then £495 :). £100 deposit is already paid. Made out of stainless steel with a lifetime warranty.

Seems a reasonable price :)
I've just sent them an email on how much it would be to replace my tips and weld new ones on. Are the tips you're getting the same as BMWP style ones?

I will be going for the same style or maybe a bit of a thicker roll at the end but more than likely the same style as BMWP. FormulaRon did similar but did a backbox delete and then had twin pipes welded on IIRC :).

It'll look very similar to Cupsters:

Cupster has the BMWP Exhaust :).

It seems the performance exhaust may be the safer bet. Suppose an option could be to get that, then potentially a Y-pipe after if I still wanted more noise.

salesafter.eu seems the cheapest place to get a performance exhaust. Has anyone used them recently?

Also, I imagine a full custom exhaust would be more difficult to get back to stock if / when I sell the car.

Not personally. Again there's a thread somewhere. Double check leebman 24.de they have a good review.

I've used salesafter for my 123 exhaust, no complaints.

Comms by email in English, they requested funds by PayPal, I got a DHL tracking reference and it was with me a few days later. Easy

The £ has slipped a bit against the € but still very cheap from Germany.
