Hi there,

I could do with some advice... I've put a deposit down on an m135i, but really struggling to sell my 123d hatchback?? It's currently in autotrader and has been for a week, but all I'm getting is time wasters even though it's priced really well for its age, mileage and toys! I really want to pick my new car up...

Thanks in advance..

Put an advert on here? Trade in at the dealer? eBay & piston heads? Add the link to this post? Good luck selling can imagine how bad you want to pick up the new car!

Local papers? Gumtree? eBay?

Basically anywhere you can mate, just get it out there, there are tonnes of Facebook groups just got to look, I'd go Gumtree and Pistonheads as well, eBay maybe but not sure on how to put a car on there?

I got my 123 off autotrader for the record. A week isn't a long time bud!

I would definitely get some better photos
Drive to a nice area, with some scenery and get a few high quality nice honest photos. This effort will show in the ad, which will leave a good impression on how you treat the car.
For me, that advert does nothing to really sell the car (no offence)

As above, the other thing that would put me off in the advert is the interior pics, dirty floor mats and dust on the picture showing the dials, little things like that can make the difference

And what's with the red bag on the seat :eek2:
If you were trading your car in at a dealers you would make sure it was immaculate for the appraisal to get the highest possible trade price. Spend a couple of hours cleaning it and it will look like you care for the car. As it is now I've seen cleaner tractors.

If past experience is anything to go by would hate to be trying to sell a used car nowadays, very, very little is shifting, not sure if folk are buying from garages with the low finance deals or what ? have seen bmws sitting for months in dealers as well. Ended up having to trade my own car in to the dealers in the end and the price was down to what they ended up giving me it was really that low in the end  good luck !!

P.s yes as pointed by a few above thou few hours spent getting the car immaculate inside and out can make a difference, didn't in my case but you get the idea :lol2:

As other have mentioned, pics are horrible!
Clean it inside and out and wait for a nice moment weather wise, then shoot some more.

You've cropped them to not show the full car in each shot too!
Don't try to be artistic with angles etc :(

Show full pics of front, back, both sides, bonnet open, inside boot, front seats, rear seats, dash, details of tyres brand and model, descriptive bit about how nice the car is etc.

Also, do yourself a favour. When you re-take the dash shots, make sure it's after slightly longer journey! 32mpg on the dash is not going to get people calling :lol2:

I took a full day to prep, clean, shoot, then white and post the add for my 130i.

Pictures and presentation is always important to me in car adverts. Being an automotive photographer my car advert pictures have always been really good and i get complimented every time for it so i know it works! It definitely helps having decent pictures even if you aren't a pro, somewhere with a good clean background will do the trick.

Take clean simple shots, remember many people don't care about angles and how cool you can make a picture, they just want to see the car.

It seems less and less cars end up as private sales. There's only 17 123d showing up as private sales on Auto trader.

There's a reasonable choice when adding in traders though. There's quite a few cars all around the same price, some less, with leather and warranty. Surprised to see a couple of coupes down at that value. A BMW main dealer also has one for £8500 on AUC.

You'll need to make your car stand out if you're asking what dealers are, but most people will still go with the dealer for protection and finance.

I think you get the point about what's been said so far.

I also think 8 grand for a relatively low spec 75k 123d is going to be tough. I mean similar mileage, 130is are going for that with equivalent or better spec.

What did they offer you trade in?

Another thing....

Has the timing chain been done? Because in the advert you say a timing belt, which the car doesn't have. So if the recall on the chain has been done, change the advert to suit accordingly.

Sorry as a car person if I read an advert where the seller talks about something I know the car doesn't have, it makes me question the other things they've put in the add.

By the way I don't mean to sound short, I'm just rushing the replies.

Hi thanks for this, I've amended the ad - so, out of interest what do think this should be listed at? It's currently the cheapest 123d for the mileage on auto-trader, apart from a couple of se examples?
