When you consider how expensive a supra is...

...you realise what a bargain a b58 m140i is!

Alright, in many respects a very different car, yeah, but come on, the same engine and pretty much same performance can be picked up for 20 odd grand in the form of a 140i.

I do like the look of the supra though.

Just a thought, that's all 😁

Yep, fair point.

Practicality wise, the m140i ticks so many boxes.

The thing I've always been put off by with the 240i, is I just can't help but compare it to the looks of an m2.

Still like them, but at least the 140i isn't comparable to an m1 😜

The 235/240 looks so so skinny and i think thats because of being used to looking at the M2.

Also the front of the 2 series is really ugly in my opinion, It feels less square and aggressive than the 1 series somehow.

I'm gonna have to disagree, think the M235 is better looking than the M135 - agree it looks a bit weedy compared to the M2 but then it's a different beast.
Prefer the more curvy body of the coupe to the hatch.
Be boring if we all felt the same šŸ˜‚

Everything in the world looks better than the M135i. Those bloody squinty eye lights are Minging!

That's what I see as well, it looks too skinny.

Simply because you can't help but compare it to the m2 which looks so much better!

The 140i isn't exactly the best looking car in the world, but I quite like it, to me, it looks meaner than the 240i.

I can't help but see the 240i as more feminine looking. (Boy is that gonna anger some 240i owners šŸ˜‚)

Each to there own āœ…

Well your comparing a car that's 9000 years old to a car that's a few years old and a completely different shape 😁.

The only thing similar is the number '1' in the names.

The 240i and the m2 on the other hand... you just can't help compare them.

I don't really like the new Supra; it's ugly and a mess of a design in my eyes Sonos happily take my M140i! :lol2:

I also prefer the design of the hatch. I think the two series is slightly oddly proportioned. It's not as good looking as the old one series coupe on my opinion, a car which I think has aged really well. The M2 hides some of the awkwardness with its big arches and bumpers but then let's itself down with the cow udder exhaust.

It's actually not a very different car. As both a Toyota and BMW fan, the Supra drives like a BMW.

Two months ago I drove the Supra for 90min and it was incredibly alike my M140i with LSD, Birds B1 and underbody brace. The only edge the Supra has is the lack of dead zone in the throttle pedal and steering. Compared with stock M140i, the Supra is significantly more sorted. However a few chassis mods will take you to 90% of the Supra's finesse.

The Toyota is actually selling poorly. It's not hard to see why. No discount or deposit contribution is offered. I was quoted £6,500/deposit and £680/month.

It is mad money when an M140/M240i with the same engine and gearbox can be picked up for £16-20k. Yes the Toyota looks stunning but the price premium is simply too big with plenty of other options for the same money.

For £54k the old non-M F30 steering wheel is a turn off. On the practical side, the boot opening is small and there are no door pockets. I don't think it's worth the money at list price but will be a car to consider in 2-3 years if used ones drop to £25k.

Two months on from my test drive I'm even happier with my car than before I drove the Supra as my M140i is, with mods, just as good but at £20k less.

I couldn't imagine spending £680 a month on a car.

Then again, it's all relative to earnings.

Would actually be quite interesting to know the average wages of m140i/240i owners! It's an affordable car, but not the cheapest to run, be interesting to know what kind of wage people bring in to run these beasts.

For a performance car that's capable of doing 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds the M140i/M240i is cheap to run. VED is only £140/year, a full tyre set is £500, it's capable of 40-45mpg on long runs, service is condition based and there is wide access to cheap spare parts.

Other performance/sports cars with similar performance have running in service, annual service, £800-1,000, VED above £350-400 and expensive spare parts and brakes.

FYI my X3 20i has created tyre costs, VED and ballon payment. The M140i is a bargain allrounder with a big engine. A one of a kind car.

It's ugly as sin which isn't helping it plus there's the badge. Most people in the UK are badge snobs and balk at the thought of dropping £54k on a Toyota. And yes, that steering wheel is a sodding monstrosity!

I was thinking more fuel wise, tyres to me are expensive, but that's because I'm used to cheaper cars, but for a performance car, it is a bargain!

Yes, love the fact the tax is cheap.

It does turn heads though. When I drove it, I saw numerous guys dropping their jaws and turning their heads 90-180 degrees. I felt like a super star :lol2: This was a dark silver car. A yellow, black or red one would turn even more heads.

On metrit, it's a superbly engineering and fine tuned car, but it's priced in a way that only true fanboys would pony up the money.

However many of those die hard fans are now pissed as Toyota have unveiled the 2021 MY which has the new 382hp rated B58, a front strut brace, complimentary CarPlay, revised suspension and steering. Production for MY 2021 starts in April which is heart breaking for current Supra owners who only started taking delivery from September 2019.

I'm guessing they're trying to differentiate it from the upcoming GR86 Toybaru with some additional performance, allegedly it was looking like a better car (point to point) but at basically half the price.

I don't think the new Supra looks too bad. It does, if you squint, channel some of the aggression of the old 90s model with a chunk of TVR Sagaris thrown in. I'd drive one with no regrets. No the model that hit every branch in the ugly tree is it's Z4 cousin. Have you seen one in the flash? There isn't a single angle where it looks well resolved. The rear looks like they gave a Halfords Saturday Boy the keys to the mods cabinet. Just hideous.

It does split opinion. Some think less is more while others think more is more.

I thought the more powerful one fell foul of emissions regulations?

I don't car either way because I'm not their target market because I don't like them!

I like the looks of my M240i apart from when a M2 is in the room :lol2: However you don't have to go too mad with a few trinkets to improve the looks massively. I think a big part of the "skinny" look is due to the awful way the stock wheels sit inset in the rear arches. A nice set of wheels somewhat solves this, CHR's in my case, it's not M2 aggressive but an improvement. I completely disagree that the front end is ugly, in my opinion that's the best angle and certainly better than the 1er but that's each to their own. Can't say that doesn't look well....

For 680 a month earnings are relevant. But for used cars i think its less so.
Some people spend more on new fiesta st's than a used 135i.
I know what I'd rather have.
