Wheel repair?

608 Views 12 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Pentland
My girlfriend has just clipped the front driver side wheel , anyone have any recommendations for wheel refurb companies?
Also I’m a bit concerned about the chunk taken out of the tyre sidewall , what do think , still safe?

Where are you located? Tyre probably OK, but will need changing at some point.
For alloy repairs I've heard Lepsons are good - if you're near Kent or Wolverhampton.

As far as the tyre goes, think it's just the rim protection that's gone so should be fine to keep until the end of its life.

Lincoln area .
The good thing about those wheels is they can do a smart repair on exactly that type of damage and the reflections of the diamond cut part are such that you won’t notice the painted part. I’d leave the tyre until you need to change it. It’s fine.
Girlfriend or ex girlfriend ?

I have contacted my local dealer , they use a company next door to them , not sure if it’s part of the Soper dealership but they do all there wheel refurbs & bodywork repairs, they CNC machine the wheels and re diamond cut the rims , I will let them check the tyre at the same time .

I’d avoid re cutting the wheel if possible as you can only do that so any times. . Wait for “really bad damage”. Go for. A smart repair first and see what you think.
If that’s not really bad ?
How do they smart repair that type of finish so it matches.

As I said, when they paint the silver part, the reflections are such that you won’t notice painted / diamond cut parts. It’s only one part of the outer edge that will be painted and that will blend quite nicely.
Tyre looks fine, the damage is on the rim protector. Wheel damage isn't too awful and would be best done as a smart repair, I would always avoid having diamond cut wheels recut unless they are shot to bits.
I’m not sure about the smart repair but I will look into it , I can’t see how they match the diamond cut finish with paint .

Trust me, with that minimal damage, and given the wheel style, you won’t notice.
Ss @MrAverage said, you don’t want to be machining material off the wheel unless there is no alternative.
