* Update * Ok, I have now washed it again with Mcguiars shampoo, a wash mitt and the two bucket system followed by some Mcguiars wax and all taken off with a 100% terry towel and it just looks awful. Now it's been waxed it really show up how bad the paintwork is. It's actually two different shades of black in vast patches now..!!!

I have a pic of the bonnet bit imagine the marks in the pics but all over the car, roof etc.

Can someone please tell me how to add a picture as I have one ready to show you guys but can't quite get the code at the bottom of the email correct..?

In the meantime a pic of the trashed bonnet can be found here -

Paint Marks.JPG

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a Sapphire Black 120D and have washed the car three times so far ( only 30 days old ) and today after washing I have noticed marks on the paintwork. Not the normal swirls but actual colour difference, the paint nearby is ok but there are long stretches where the paint seems to be a lighter colour but only in sunlight, the whole car has these marks. For example the top part of the door is ok but the lower section and towards the wing mirror has these marks. They appear to be some kind of mark like someone has rubbed the car with mild sandpaper.. However the marks are totally smooth not rough.

I use Car Plan Triplewax Shampoo to wash, followed by cold water and a shammie to dry off so nothing particularly drastic.

I'll try to post some photos but wondered if someone had any idea, have I done something wrong or is it normal ?

I use the super resin polish from Autoglym followed by the extra gloss perfection. Only thing I know that will diminish the swirls on my black paint. BUT i agree the paint is sh1t compared to the 1950's black paint on my dad's XK150.

I did use a sponge and the marks do look remarkably like sponge strokes... However I used the sponge on the whole care and the marks are intermittent so I'm not sure..??

Would they come out with some kind of scratch remover or is it worth speaking to my dealer first ?

did you use a sponge.????

you should have used a lambs mitt and the two bucket system.

Black cars are so easy to mark. Although it sounds more like a problem with your lacquer(spelling)??

Can you recommend a quality wax I can try ?

Sounds to me as though someone has polished / waxed the car and now the oils / wax / silicones are starting to diminish..

What happens if you apply a quality wax over a small part of the affected area. Does the colour darken?

You could try meguiars scratchX to remove the worst of the scratches. It sounds like the clearcoat has a few minor abrassions, this wil sort it out. But, first wash the car with a quality shampoo and ditch the sponge, you end up dragging all kinds of crap over the paintwork. I would advice using meguiars gold class shampoo and a lambs wool wash mitt, it traps the crap and stop it making contact with your paint, then use the scratchX and finally wax with meguiars NXT tech wax and remove the wax and buff to a shine with a microfibre cloth. Should yield very good results. My estoril blue 330i and sydney blue 118d look stunning using the above products.

Hi mate

Halfords do a lot of the Meguiars range. You could also try cleanandshiny.co.uk. Always top service from there and next day delivery. From there you can get yourself a Eurow wash mitt and microfiber cloths.

You could also pop over to detailingworld.co.uk, loads of help and advise on there.

Went to the dealer this morning and it appears to be some kind of residue although no one seems to know what from. Their bodyshop man came out and polished the bonnet for about 20mins and it was as good as new then told me to buy some polish and do the rest myself....!!

So I've bought some Mers polish and hopefully the other marks will come off when I do it at the weekend.
