Tyre question on M135i

I've ordered a set of 624m wheels that come with Pirelli P Zero tyres, what are people's opinions of these tyres? Apparently these are the only tyres BMW supply with the 19" wheels!

My car will have adaptive suspension but starting to think that these tyres are going to make the ride a lot harder.... I know MPSS are the best but that would mean be wasting a brand new set of tyres!

Was also looking at 361 wheels in black with a red band around the rim but again same tyres and was worried slightest curbing would show up!

They're fine. I have 20's on mine and the ride isn't hard at all.

Matt
I have adaptive and had some 405m's fitted on Thursday with the PZero RFT's first impression as I drove out of Cotswold BMW was this feels a lot firmer!

Now I would like to put this down to the adaptive but it maybe a case of just getting used to the ride but once I got home (2hr drive) I'll be honest it felt no different! Funnily enough though sports still feels firmer then before.

So maybe the adaptive adapted to it or maybe I did :) whichever way I have no regrets of the swap look and feel wise but obviously performance is compromised to a degree.

Wife has used the car the last two days and said it feels no different apart from her panicking about kerbing the wheels.
Why do the 19s compromise the performance?

Oh, cheers mate, I'm looking to put mpss on my 19 405s, was just wondering
They do give a firmer ride but that is to be expected

After 4 weeks with them I can tell you I have far less confidence in them than the MPSS particularly in the cold weather. Hope this improves as the temperatures warm up in spring

19's tend to have greater unsprung weight and slightly less grip. Big wheels are a fashion thing (and there's no doubting they're pretty), but on the continent M Cars come with 18's for performance.

Here's a good article:

Thanks Gary, yip I was looking to put mpss on my 19s and put winter tyres on the 436s for the colder months

Thanks mate, good read, do you know the weight difference between the 436/405 wheels?

Hi MP

So thinking of maybe staying with 18" after reading that and cancelling 624m. Do you know if the 461m are better than the 436m in terms of quality? Should be easier to clean at least..... I also think they look bigger than 436m

If you want performance, something like an Oz Ultraleggera would be ideal, like Mike Roberts' M-Lite.

Check out Sparco Asseto Gara's too, very good vfm on eBay from Italy.
The taller side walls will also help traction, if not lateral grip on our bumpy roads (or on circuit's kerbs).
try and find if they do 19" michelin pilot sport 4 :D theyre pretty damn good so far i went for 255/35/18
2 things to consider

1. The Pirellis are run flats and as such the ride will be a little firmer.
2. Due to increase in wheel size to 19" the rear tyres are 30" profile.

Both of those elements could make the tyres less grippy than say MPSS tyres which are none run flats.

Don't forget the M2 comes with 35" profile tyres all round which is smaller than the front tyre profile on x35i and has 19" wheels too.

I feel it's the rear 30" profile that is too small although the wheels do look really good though.

Having said that I am very happy with my 19" and Pirellis tyre grip and I find it's pretty good but firm and I'm hardly tracking the car or rallying so the possible minor loss in performance really doesn't matter or bother me enough to put standard 18"s on.
