Evening all,
Booked a track day for 20 February, albeit a novices track day,so only a few cars on track at a time.
Do you think it's advisable to look into insurance,or take the chance?
Anybody with past experience of these, and not just general track days where there's all always a few bell ends.
All info would be much appreciated.

Have fun, try REIS for a quote, although I think they only provide cover for trackdays organized by certain companies

I used to pay £120 per year. However, if you go to a properly managed track day event (like Evo track days or MSV) then the chance of any bumps are very low. Unless you drive with your eyes closed. Which I would not recommend. Messy ending if you did that.

I haven't previously but may think again after reading this thread
this popped into my head altho on the track days ive been on everybody has behaved and if someone was seen to be driving like him he would have been removed very quickly

poor deadeye :(
Not clued up on what is / is not included, but if you're t boned (or similar) by someone else would this cover your costs, or is it like TPF&T and you'd still have to try and claim?

Been on many track days and never bothered. Like has been said above, well organised ones would weed out any idiots but then I suppose there is always "still that chance"!!!

Enjoy whichever route you take!

Quick search will let you know what is covered, from what I have read you are covered for your car only caused by an accident and not any damage caused to a third party

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If it was me I would definitely get insurance but I'm risk adverse!

As I said, Evo track days with MSV are quite strict. I have seen a few people black flagged. Which means leave now and don't ask for your money back.

However, if you track day out of the U.K. Then insurance is a must. When I do my yearly Nurburgring trip I always have track insurance. Cost about £260 with a £2000 excess. Full third party and quite painless to setup.

Track day is organised by msv,but I suppose there's always a risk of something happening,be it your own fault or somebody else's.
I think I'll look in to getting a few quotes, and see if there reasonable.
Thanks for all the replies.

I've done a couple of track days, although a while back now.

One of the guys at the track said to me, if you can afford to pay for your damaged car, damage to the track and/or any third party, then you don't need insurance. If not....?

I know the MSV ones are very well marshalled and folks generally well behaved, you just never know. Mechanical failure of yours or another car could easily lead to an incident.

People only get black flagged after they've done something wrong.

If that 'getting something wrong' means them using you as their brakes, nobody in the world could have saved you from that, maybe with the exception of the other driver... No matter how strict the organiser, how experienced the field, where on the planet you do the track day or what colour lucky underpants you wear.

Plan for the worst and then make the decision to insure if that means a significant loss you're not prepared to front.

I've used Moris but lately have track days included with normal policy with A plan - BMW car club.
Done a couple without but happier being covered, seen a few accidents that have caught up innocents.

I have done proper track days at the Ring the last couple of years. UK run which means all of our rules apply. Which is great!
Normal open days at the Ring are not that great. Firstly they are far and few between these days. Secondly as soon as it hit 12 mid day it get quite dangerous when the locals turn up. And third, it's so bloody expensive to get access. A track day is much better value for money.

I wouldn't do one without insurance just not worth the risk.

It's all well and good saying they black flag idiots but it's not going to help if said idiot has hit you up the arse.

At the end of the day it's your choice but I wouldn't risk it.
