To de-badge or not to de-badge?

Finally settled on spec and am painfully close to placing an order with TRL.

The final decision is that opinion dividing badge on the back.

What are people preferences? And those of you who made the decision, what was it and are you happy with it?

Cheers!

I took the hideous "m" badge off the front wings within an hour of picking it up .

4 months on and I'm still in a dilemma as to whether to remove the rear badge ! I actually like the rear badge but I also like the clean look and it'd be even more of a Q car

I'm the other way around. I don't mind the side badges but no so sure about the rear.

Do they come off easy enough?
Very easy

Heated the badge with the wife's hairdyer for about 30s , gently peel off badge and then a bit of Tardis to remove any residue
All my badges are removed. Easy to clean around and a stealthier look.

Considering the above - the picture in your signature made me LOL

Agree with what you say, though.
Yeah generic pic as my signature and thought it looked daft when I posted regarding debadge. :D
Pre LCI = No
LCI = De badge
There have been a quite a few thefts of BMWs in the West Midlands area, so De-badged would be a sensible option.

I always go de-badged

I had BMW debadge my humble 218i. M badges on the wings seems silly on my little 3 cylinder.

However a word of advice. Some insurance companies in the UK regard badge removal as a material modification
( I believe BMW insurance do not) so if you do not want the badges best to get factory to do it. If you do it yourself
you need to phone your insurance company to check they are not one of the few who take issue with this.
I ordered mine debadged.

Petrolheads still recognise it as an M135i instantly, no foglights, two exhausts, etc.
Jealous Knobheads who enjoy keying & vandalising new hot hatches have walked on by (so far).
Makes thieves jobs a little bit harder.
You get less unwanted attention from Chav Boy-racers and the Boys in Blue.
Non-petrolheads aren't impressed with cars full-stop, so an M135i badge won't tickle their pickle anyway.
Badges are crap magnets, makes polishing the car a PITA.

I can't see any good reason to have a badge on it really, where's the profit?
On the lci the badge just doesn't look at home on the boot so I had model deletion on my order. Plus my wife drives the car 90% of the time and didn't want nob heads trying to race her, but as said if you know your cars you know what she can do ;)

I love the badges as long as bmw put them on. I cant stand people dressing up cars if bmw dont put them on they shouldnt be there.
Boot badge will be coming off mine as soon as I can get the car clean again. IMO it looks wrong and i'm already fed up with Mondeo man trying to race me after a week of ownership.

AND this ^^^as ever - wise words (to the letter) from Mr P
I didn't have a compelling reason to consciously tick the de-badge option;

- The 'keying' mob will be motivated by the BMW badge in my opinion and that's another level of 'de-badging'
- I find the 'gutter' in the alloy wheels far more annoying than detailing around the badges, but I'm a sad one who enjoys detailing
- I tend to ignore the boy racers, they get bored after a few minutes of no response but to be fair they'd recognize the car with or without badges as many of them 'know' their cars
- thieves, I did consider that at one point but decided when out at the cinema etc I'd reverse park into a space etc. The opportunist thief could well be swayed by the badge but the 'steal to order' brigade will not be misled
- looks wise, I'm one of the unusual members who both likes the LCI and is not offended by the badge on the hatch so I fully accept I'm an outlier :)

I can and do however fully accept each to their own :)

Regards.
