Having read some horror stories of the timing chain tensioner/guide breaking up and blocking the oilways is there anything I can check before its too late? Has anyone changed the tensioner? Im fairly handy with the spanners but replacing the chain seems like a major job with lots of special tools. Any advice greatly appreciated

Most of the chain issues on here are the N47 diseasil, but we do get a few petrol tensioners fail too. They aren't too tricky to replace, or too expensive.

A febi-bilstein chain tensioner is around £30, iirc.

Will do a bit of research then and if its fairly straightforward I'll have a go. I've got lots of time on my hands so it will give me something to do!
