Hi all,

Before you say "this forum has a search function" there are two issues to that.

A) JB4 is only 3 characters so very difficult to search for
B) it seems the kit I have acquired Is the latest batch so doesn't match any instructions or guides I've seen.

Anyway everything seems very straight forward but I have 2 questions:

First one EWG harness, is this picture the correct harness? It's dark but I am sure that's it

Second question and one that I really need to rack everyone's brain with. The OBD connector is different so I don't think I can splice it. Is it possible to connect this one straight to the OBD port or do I need to cut some wires and splice it somewhere? If so where so that I can keep the canbus functions

Your advice would be appreciated, ideally I would like to plug it straight into the OBD port. Cleanest method

Cheers

You are correct mate....

The first picture shows where you need to plug in your EWG harness.
Yes no splicing or cutting required with the OBDii plug. you need to remove the platic panel from under the steering wheel and then the kick panel to access the OBDii plug.

Easy :)

Bump... Just want some advice before I start
Where's Blind Pugh when you need him ;)
Sorry folks been coaching u10s mini rugby.

Ref the 2nd question, with RHD car, I wouldn't bother with OBD2 cable (its designed for LHD US cars where OBD2 port is mounted in a different place) as on RHD cars the OBD2 is located vertically in the kick panel by the door jamb. The door wont close with this cable plugged into your OBD2 port.

Solution is to install your canbus cables thru the bulkhead [via grommet where bonnet pull cables pass thru] and positap as follows

CANBUS Back of OBD2 Port

Green Grey

Brown Blue

Then upload OBD FW onto JB4 and then you have full functionality for gauge hijacking, map switching and canflap exhaust control as per BMS's YT video below :-

Thanks for the info. The only issue is the OBD harness and the two cables attached to the JB4 both have harnesses so there is no postitaps in my kit.

Recommend just cutting the OBD harness off the end?

I'm sure I'll work something out though.

Cheers

I did this recently. As BP said, the OBD connector is no good for our cars. Just snip the end off and tap the two wires as per BP's colour pairings.

I managed to find some Positaps locally, otherwise there's always eBay. Make sure you get ones with a sharp tapping pin - I bought the gold-plated variety and they weren't sharp enough to get through the insulation so I had to butcher it first.

Did you snip the end of the OBD harness or the harness that's attached to the JB4?

Also wanted to install this tonight and I don't have any positaps :(

Jonny - you can use JB4 absolute maps [0, 4, 6 and 7] without OBD connected but then JB4 adaptive maps [1, 2, 3 and 5] won't work as they rely on DME info via canbus. In addition you won't have ability to swap maps nor read and clear codes on the hoof if canbus is disconnected. BP

Cut the OBD plug off and mate the wires under the bonnet between OBD2 and JB4 using existing BMS 2 pin plugs to make canbus disconnection under the bonnet easier.

If no positaps you can always use Sealey or similar T taps instead.

Hi mate, wasn't really meaning that. What I meant was is it possible to have the adapter plugged into the OBD port, but have it all hidden behind the trim? I.e unmount the OBD port from the trim. Then when it comes to service time disconnect the adapter and remount the OBD port?

Yes, you can do this. There's plenty of space behind the trim to tuck it away, but you will obviously lose easy access to your OBD port for other things.
