I think the only real positive here is getting rid of the i3!

Bit of a strange looking car in my opinion - it just looks like a 'half baked' product in my eyes. Interior is a bit naff too, but then the Baby 'X' models always have been.

I don't mind it tbh, design is fairly generic and inoffensive, unlike the i4 and iX . ID9 looks like a nice upgrade over the ID8, still a step backwards from having shortcut buttons like the older cars, but the entire car industry has decided buttons are the devil so they probably aren't coming back.

£63K as just priced-up by me, with the same options as on my M235i and pricing-up an M2 similarly comes out at £57K. Of course, these are very different vehicles, but when I compare this to an MG 4EV Long Range at £30K, I just wonder what I'm getting for the extra money? And the iX1 is the baby of the EV fleet. I like the interiors of the new BMW EVs but the styling doesn't work for me, especially given how innovative the i3 and i8 designs were, and even if I could live with the outside, it just seems, well, very expensive for what you get. But perhaps I'm just out of touch with current car prices.

My sister has an MG courtesy car SUV thing now whilst her Volvo is being repaired after being hit from behind, and after looking inside and hearing her thoughts on it I can easily see where the extra money goes!! It's like being in a 90s vehicle.

I like this new X1 thing, would be perfect for us but with how things are now we'll be lucky to even keep our 240 at this rate, currently £1200/month worse off than we were just in 2020.

The MG 4EV is a different car to the SUV and obviously, there's an electric premium on it as well. So to me, £30K looks like excellent value for a long-range, electric equivalent to an Astra or Focus. You could buy two of the 4EVs for the price of an iX1 and have some change left over. For that sort of premium, yes, the interior's going to be better - but £36K better?

I don't really think MG is a fair comparison to BMW, you're getting into "why buy a new Ferrari when a 25 year old MX5 is all you need" territory. Anyone looking at the MG isn’t going to be able to afford to spend more than twice as much, and anyone looking at the X1 isn’t going to want to spend less than half as much on an AliExpress version of a car. Totally different target markets.

I know it’s badge snobbery, but I wouldn’t be seen dead in an MG. Neither would my Mrs, and she isn’t even into cars, or badges. 😂

I get that the MG isn’t a BMW. So there’s a premium to be paid to move up to something better. My point is that the additional £36K doesn’t buy you much. Another £36K for an M2 is value for money. Another £25K for an M240i is value for money. But another £36K for the iX1 seems poor value.

I agree - whether the brands are comparable or not is immaterial. Buying into a premium marque means the extra money needs to be justifiable to someone.

If you look at it purely from the perspective of 'how much car do you get for your money' I don't think any car beats the 1 Series to be honest. Personally I can't think of another car that does exactly what the 1 Series does for the same or less money. And I definitely can't see the iX1 being some sort of luxurious boat that no one could do without - 63K buys you a lot of car usually; this is not 63K well spent in my eyes.
