Hey,

I just wanted some advice and help regarding servicing my car - never really been into cars but having bought my current (first) car, I'm trying to build up my knowledge so I can look after it and it also helps so that I don't get ripped off when going to the garage.

I bought the car (2010 116i) in September 2015 at 59,000 miles (roughly), since that time I've done approx 10,000 miles due to the nature of my work - commuting etc.

The pictures below show the current service information on the OBC and the last two services, and what they included.

Since buying the car I've only added oil, topped up the washer fluid and had an MOT done.

I have a full service booked in but I don't think one is necessary, however I would would like some views as to what is the best course of action.

Many thanks.

It probably needs a set of spark plugs, if they haven't been done yet?

Other than that it doesn't need anything according to what I can see.

Spark plugs were done just under 2 years ago at 40,000 miles, and the car's on 70,000 miles at the moment. What about in regards to future servicing, are there set intervals which are recommended besides the dates on the OBC? They seem too far away, and the front and back brakes don't have a date.

Many thanks for the reply and advice.

They'll need doing at approx' 80k then, along with the oil.

All done via the CBS. Some of it is set intervals (like the brake fluid, MOT emissions & plugs), others purely on condition (brakes) and some can be time and/or mileage (engine oil) whichever comes first.

The car will say when it wants something. :)

I see, so it's just a case of keeping an eye on the CBS? Any specific resource I refer to just for general reading, for example you mention spark plugs and oil need changing at 80k - how would I be able to find such things out as i'm guessing the CBS won't mention anything about them when car hits 80k?

Apologies for amateur questions, just trying to become more aware :)

Thanks.

Yup, the CBS will tell you what's due next every time you start the car, as a little 'heads-up'.

Plugs get changed with every 2nd oil service usually, so every 80k approx.
