Saw the M2 in Real Life Today

I visited the Brussels motor show on its opening day today. I went there primarily to see the BMW M2 for the first time. As expected it was in the launch colour, Long Beach Blue, and the colour in which I have my order (due in July). The show was surprisingly quiet and I had the run of the BMW stand it seemed. Also, I fully expected the star of the show to be the M2, but from what I could tell it wasn't really catching the attention of the visitors. The biggest crowds were to be found around the more mundane vehicles on the BMW stand, and also on the Renault and Volvo stands. I guess most people were interested in looking at cars they're thinking of buying rather than eye candy which has no relevance to them.

So, my thoughts. The M2 doesn't look quite as aggressive in real life as it does in the official press photos from BMW. The arches don't seem as pronounced. However, it can hardly be described as tame looking. It's still a very focused looking machine with the bodywork seemingly pulled tight over the chassis like a tight miniskirt.

The plastic inserts behind the front wheels on the sides of the car look very cheap indeed. Also, the interior is clearly a notch below the M3/M4 in quality. I know it's on a lower rung of the M ladder, but it still doesn't feel like it's a special model. Different seats would have helped but we all know why it didn't get them.

It was parked next to an M4 Coupe and there really is very little difference in size. It puts the 1,570kg weight into perspective. It actually looks like quite a large car.

The lack of signature M parts such as mirrors and the CFRP roof don't detract from the car at all. It looks superb.

The car on display (and my order) had the M DCT gearbox. Looking at the instrument panel it doesn't seem to have the shift lights.

Overall I am very impressed by the M2 Coupe, and I'd say the likelihood of me taking up my order in July have increased from 50% to 80%.

A couple of the interior.

Love the colour I can't wait to see one in person.
that shot of the front end JEEEESUS it looks good!!! but i still think as a whole its a let down :(
Its too smooth to be an "M" IMO they needed make it look mean.
I'd like to see one in person, but I'm really not sure about the rear wheels and the proportions around that area.
That front shot really shows its aggressiveness, but the side shots really don't excite me IMO. :(
The front it great, but doesn't seem "special" enough for an M car and a real shame about the lack of the other usual M parts. Also doesn't look like it has an oil temperature gauge either.

Really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh soon as that may change my mind :)

It has an oil and water temperature display. You have to toggle the "BC" switch on the indicator stalk. The one which toggles the time/date/average fuel consumption display between the two instrument dials.

It certainly looks mean in real life. It looked meaner than the M4 parked next to it (which I do love by the way).
The best looking car to come out of BMW in recent years imo.

The 1570kg weight takes into account a driver, luggage and a 90% full tank though.
The track width and ride height look really aggressive, can't see much demand for spacers and lowering as the stance is spot on from the factory if this example is representative of stock configuration.

The combination of rim size and reasonable tyre sidewall profile make the wheels look massive though, almost too much for the body?

The LBB looks much more blue in these photo's, I dislike the rear reflectors but I guess they can be darkened so as to appear more vent like
Looks very nice.

Although reading your post you pointed out a fair few negatives

Yes. And your point is? The M4 is 1,572kg with the driver, luggage and 90% full tank. So it's just 2kg heavier.

The M2 looks almost as big as the M4 when it's side by side. The fact that the M2 doesn't have the exotic weight saving measures as the M4 means the weight comparison is entirely understandable.
M2 looks too tame compared to the other M cars IMO. Looks lovely in that front end shot though.

Tame :?

When i look at the M2 i certainty don't think tame ...
M2 doesn't look tame in the least, not even to other M cars. There are tamer looking M cars out there.. M5.. M6..
I think you're only comparing the M2 to the M3/4.. Then you should say so..

That's your opinion. My opinion is, compared to the other M cars, the M2 looks tame and when I say looks, I mean in terms of the bodywork and the general way it looks. Why do you think I'm comparing it to the M3 or the M4? That's your assumption.

Which I fully agree with.
Fully disagree, if anything the M4 looks tame in comparison.

My father has an M4 and iv'e seen an M2 in the flesh so in a pretty good place to comment ...

Anyway my opinion is the only opinion valid .... thanks goodbye :lol2:
I like it but as sonic said tame compared to other m cars I can see y I Carn't quite put finger on y that is. But I do think the 1m looks more aggressive than the m2 mainly the back end just lacking something. Front looks good think I seen a report which stated as I've said aswell. Still like it tho
Everyone has their own opinion and are entitled to it, I don't understand the forum warrior attitudes in this thread... jesus christ grow up.

I like the M2, I like the M3 and M4 more, but the M2 is nice, but I'll probably still get an M235i (or M240i) over it as its more stealthy and half the crap you would want to do on an M2 (over an M235i/M240i) you'd need a track day for, which I can't be arsed with.
