Reversing noise.

When reversing I get quite a load groaning noise which seems to be getting louder the miles I clock up. I have read somewhere it is the rear brake pads touching the discs. Has anyone else come across this problem. Car is a M135i. Trip to the dealers looks like it could be on the cards.

So I've had a similar experience had the noise, then rotors, pads etc changed at around 4000k's noise came back within 2000ks I gave it a few months to settle , no real difference im at now 7800k's with the replaced parts so 3000k's in and its still there, more so Id when the pads are hot it'll do it, so went in to my local bm d/s where I purchased the car from had a conversation, which basically went like this mate I think its pointless replacing rotors and pads every 3000k's , its a waste of your time and my time , I'd rather a proper fix and not a band aid fix, so we've raised a case direct to BM with video attached and see what happens. But at this point Im not too fussed as I think ill end up traded and making a move on the new M2 or a low k's F87 M2, once their on able to be ordered here in Australia, other then that it's been faultless.
So my cars back in AGAIN for the reverse noise / Groaning - This is the 3rd set of pads and 2nd discs it had (first being ones on the car before i took it in) and to be fair williams have been great about it.

So because it had the fix already, they had to send off to BMW to get an approval to do further work. BMW agreed and they are now changing the pads again and replacing the carriers as this is now the best option to cure they said.

So if yours goes in, tell them to do the carriers aswell.

Its going back nextweek for a revised set of pads different part numbers, as I still fell its the pads and nothing else, but we'll see, I dont really have plans on keeping this vehicle at this point.

I'd say the carriers were changed in relation to the tracking issue potentially, as carriers have bearing on low speed reversing noise, I hope it resolves your issue

Don't let it ruin your experience with the car, it's not a bad little car, just enjoy it.

Rear carriers are a BMW H/O resolution to the reverse noise as a second fix if discs and pads dont work now apparently.

Do you think rear carriers has knocked my tracking etc out?

I do like the car but as i posted in other threads, its just one thing after another with it and im tempted to just trade in.

I don't think carriers would cause that issue, I'd look at getting a proper wheel alignment in case and just process of elimination.
Mine went in today for some unrelated work and I told them about the groaning from the rear. BMW now state that this is normal and the service bloke let me read the stuff on the system.

It reads as if it’s caused by UK weather. Very odd and I told him on an 8 month car I expect better.
funnily enough, mine is always more noticeable/bothersome in very cold and/or wet weather. It’s still poor though really. Doesn’t seem to be an issue on other vehicles in the U.K.
My car was back in (and out!) yesterday (16/02) for the reversing noise (4th time). No replacement parts this time and the technicians said the brakes needed ‘bedding in’ more so they did a road test and said the noise is no longer present. They mentioned also about the compound used in the brakes being very hard and just have to accept that the M135i is prone to this issue. Got home reversed in the drive….guess what was still there and louder than ever?!

That sounds like a bunch of bs, they tried that number on me, no chance mate, what you want is the new pad part number it's a different part number to the standard pad, keep pushing for a case to be raised with bmw like mine, it's definitely the pads mate.

I’ve had replacement pads, brake discs, wiring sensors mate per a BMW Technical Bulletin and it still came back. Had two lots of replacements.
Carriers?
its the part of the brake that squeezes the pads against the discs. BMW believe that they need changing as im assuming they stick when reversing.

anyway, i had discs and 4 sets of pads for the noise. nothing.

carriers changed and all good so far.

Thank you I’ll make sure I let my local dealer know about this on my next trip to see them 🤦‍♂️
Only do e a couple of hundred since changing them but I think there’s more initial grab as the brakes feel much better.
Find they manage a nice progressive stop without the awful lunge part the oem ones had.
Mine were about worn out at 12800 miles and these were less than half price of bmw ones and Black Friday deals helped too.
How are you finding the pads now that a bit more time has passed?

The rear brake groaning has come back on mine after its second set of rear disc/pads and it's out of warranty now anyway, so I was thinking of fitting some aftermarket pads all round. Mine have always been very grabby on slow stops and with the reversing noise back as well, I figure it's maybe worth a change.
Mentioned this to BMW today when taken in for a service. Apparently they have released a PUMA measure stating when the rear brakes get too hot or something? Didn’t really understand, especially as my car can do it when it’s stone cold!
Anyone heard similar?
I just get fobbed off every time I mention it. My car has 25k on it now and the noise is more frequent. Used to happen most often in the wet, but now it happens daily.
Not even joking but my cars been back in a week for the damn noise again. Back and forth with germany on fixes and the conclusion they came to was to squeegee and wash the pads ......... not even making it up.

Its not even wet related, as its in the dry now. Car collected Wednesday. Thursday and today Nosie again back.

Cant fault Williams BMW but im at the end of my tether with this car.
