Do you mean fitting the bluetooth module, if you are think about it then be prepare to splash out on the cash, will cost you roughly £700 to purchase the module. Your better off get a Parrot Kit .

Hope this helps .

I fitted a Parrot 3000 Evo bluetooth kit, with a Connects2 PPAR006 interface box and leads last week - Total cost £165. it works with both the business and pro head unit, but they say it wont work with a fiber optic amplifier so if you have a HiFi upgrade on your stereo, then caution is advised.

It couldn't be easier to do yourself. remove the stereo, plug in a couple of cables and presto, it works.

The connects 2 box and leads plug into the Parrot Kit and the stereo. This supplies power to the kit, meaning you don't have to find or splice wired fora power feed and this also integrates the kit with the MFSW, so you can pick up, mute and end calls, change volume and voice dial from the steering wheel.

It plays through the stereo speakers and mutes the stereo during a call. nothing is visible after installation except the mike.

Fitting took me anout an hour and a half, but that was me fiddling a bit too.

I'll try and pull together a how to in a bit.

i bought my kit from

Thanks for the Connects2 install details. I am looking to do this next week.

I have been told though that if you use anything other than the CK3000, (eg CK3100) then the volume is not controlled by the stereo (for some technical reason - no big problem as you just control it from the Parrot headuntit anyhow.

I was curious if when in a call, what does the stereo display? Does it actually say 'mute' , 'phone' etc ?

Cheers

My German is practically non-existent, but if you look at the pricelist for the facelifted 1-er posted in one of the other forums, there seem to be a couple of dealer-fit handsfree kits offered now, one with Bluetooth and one without. Looks like the non-BT version is about 300 euros (plus fitting), and the BT version is about 500 euros (again, plus fitting).

Might be worth waiting a bit to see if these are offered on the old 1-er as well.

Hi Karlak,
i'm mot sure about the volume control with anything other than the 3000 evo. When i emailed Parrot, they said that the Connects 2 kit works with the 3100 as well, however you need a couple of other leads as well (cost £18 IIRC). i;ll find the details and stick thm up too.

WRT the 3000 evo, the volume control is via the MFSW, and like one of our other members, once the kit was set up, i have hidthe Parrot conroller button underneath the gearstick gaiter, as you don't need it again - the MFSW will give you access to all the functions.

Personally i like the fact it is hidden. The downside with the 3000 evo is that you fon't seem to get the phonebook sync or GPS functionality of the 3200 - 3400 models, but i'd rather have the MFSW functionality. I guess that is the personal choice you have to make.

If i understand Parrot correctly, the 3200, 3300 or 3400 do not integrate with the MFSW at present via the Connects2 box.

Do you get the phonebook displaying on the stereo with this kit Gerry ?
John, no i don't, i'm afraid. I've the standard business CD and the stereo displays "PHONE" when on the telephone.

The 3000 Evo is pretty basic and doesn't sync the phonebook to it. To make a call, you either need to select a number directly from the phone handset or use the voice tag.

I don't think the 3200 - 3400 models have the phonebook on the headunit, though they do sync with the LCD display on the Parrot kit, but as i said, i understand that teh 3200 - 3400 models don't work with the MFSW (yet)

the back of the stereo looks like this

and the normal connector looks like this

all the bits supplied with the PArrot 3000 evo kit are here

however the only reqiured parts of the Parrot 3000 evo kit looks are these

and the Connects 2 kit it looks like this

the 2 square boxes on the connects2 loom plug into the back od the stereo and the car wiring loom and the white connector plugs into the black connects 2 box. (ps the stereo wont work with the connects2 loom plugged in unless the black connects2 box is plugged in.

there is no power wiring feeds required with this set up t hhe kit works from teh stereo power from teh car loom.

imagine the stereo and car loom is plugged into the plugged in on the connects 2 loom in this picture - that is how the kit is wired in the car .

hope this helps

i got the 3000 evo kit for about £80, and the PPAR006 connects2 kit was about the same from the net somewhere previously mentioned.
If you get the 3100 you need another couple of wires which cost about £18.
AFAIK the 3200, 3300 and 3400 kits don't work with the MFSW.

Also i understand if you dont use teh connects2 kit, power is an issue and the mute withthe stereo and MFSW integration doesn't work as well ( if at all)

My mic is placed by the rear view mirror, and run behind the headlining (an easy job to stuff it behind along the top of the window.) then down the a pillar to the top join where the airbag is, across to the rear of the A pillar, then down the front door frame behind the gasket.

Quite easy really, takes 15min or so to run it.

Nice write-up Thanks

Couple of points -:

If you have a CK3100 (the one with the LCD screen and Phonebook download) - Then there is actually another connects2 lead available now which does away with the need for an extra cable. p/no CTPPAR016 (from memory)

Also.

Did you route the Mic lead 'across' the airbag at the top of the 'A' Pillar ? I have been told that this is not a good idea, as it could hinder the airbag if deployed.

I should hopefully get my Connects2 cable this week (for the CK3100), so really appreciate the info.

Yes, i routed it accross thre top, but i don't think it woul cause a problem with the airvag deployment - it is just tucked inside the a pillar cover and it is only thin cable and i think the explosive deployment of the airbag would more than likely break it. Also you have to remember the trim comes off in the deployment and the aitbag is attached to the A pillar some how, so i'm not too worried.

Its also on the passenger side and i'll be driving....
there is also a fair bit of slack tucked behind theroof lining anyway.

oh, there is a disclaimer on the connects2 PPAR006 lead instructions that says the kit is not compatable with fibreoptic amps and i noticed you have a hifi upgtade - will that cause a problem?

Fair point on the Mic cable routing - certainly make install easier.

I believe I am OK with the headunit as I have checked with connects2 - There is another hifi upgrade above mine, which uses the fibre (I hope  )

The fibre optic link is only used on the hi-fi professional speakers with DSP - if you have the standard hi-fi speaker package, you'll be fine.

Hi Moonshine, I've received the Connects2 lead and car is being delivered on Tuesday (130i M Sport - 10k on the clock, registered Feb'06). I'm still waiting on delivery of the CK3000 but I've had these before and remember the blue processor box is a reasonable size. Looking at the size of the connects 2 I'm concerned that they're not all going to fit behind the dash too easily !! Any advice on where to position the boxes ? Many thanks, Chris.

Hi moonshine,
Parts arrived today and I've been out to experiment with removing radio etc. Got the radio out ok and testing Ck3000 and Connects2 to ensure all working ok. Getting dark here now so thought I'd leave full install until the weekend and plenty of sunshine (and rain probably...).
With regard to the panel under the glovebox - I couldnt see anything obvious. I presume you dont need to remove the glovebox ? Also - the gap to the left of the radio 'bay' seemed tiny to squeeze the large cables through ?
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Gerry
Had some time tonight so installed the CK3000. I can't see how to get BOTH boxes in that compartment under the glove-box ? The Ck3000 fits nicely (because you've got the cable length) but the Connects2 box simply doesnt have the length of cable to put it anywhere but on the rhs - which means the compartment isnt quite flush when I refit. I doesnt look bad but I can't fit the press-stud fastening back in and one of the screws.
Could you let me know whereabouts you put the connects2 box under the glove-box.
Cheers
Chris
