Morning all, first time poster so please be gentle.

I bought my girlfriend a 118i a few weeks ago. She loves the car (Alpine white Sport) but doesn't like using the Navman sat nav that I used to use in my spare car. The car has i drive so I was wondering, does anyone do a retro fit of either the BMW sat nav or another.

It's alrready the most expensive car I have ever bought, as I convinced myself to get a X6 40d in Alpine white at the same time!

Hi.... I ordered a F20 118d Sport but to have the better engine had to sacrfice the SAT NAV.. However as my dealer advised me the multimedia system is very expensive and a TomTom or Garmin almost gives same facility and some ÂŁ1300 + cheaper.

I did look into the retro fit and at the moment as the F20 is such a new model I've been unable to find anyone that can do anything that doesnt cost silly ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ

I have a TOMTOM Go Live 1000. I am going to hardwire the system into the car. And this is what I have gone for;

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Item No. : 215467 and Item No. 604722.

All in all the TomTom and Broadit parts have cost me ÂŁ210.00.

My Car is being delivered Friday :spotman: so hopefully next week I will fit the system.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Ok... Under the glover box and the driver side are 2 panels which are held in by 2 bolts either side.. Think it's 11 mm hex bolts .. Any way remove these and using a trim tool in pop the panels.. They will drop down from the front as if there on hinges.. This will expose the connection of the aux connector.. Brown is negative. Orange with white strip is ignition live... I used these connectors

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and put spades on the end of the sat nav cable and pushed the spades into the blue connectors..

With both the panels down your see the cars electrical loom running along the rear of the panels.. I just fead the cable along the back..

With the drivers door open there is a panel on the side at the end of the dash.. Pop this off with a trim tool and run the cable up under the rubber door seal. The cable will then fit in the natural grove when u snap fit back the plastic end panel..

Hope that makes sense.. I'f you need pics I won't be able to do them until Sunday or Monday...

Just bumping this.

I'm also trying to work out what SatNav and where to put it. I really don't want a vent clip or a window mount. The space in front of the cup holders is too small for a Garmin even a 4" I tried this by getting Halfords sales guy to bring a few out to the car.

However a phone fits here really nicely, therefore my plan is to buy an old HTC Desire S and use a SatNav app. The HTC Desire S has a side charging port so when the phone is in landscape the charing port is at the bottom. Then I going to see if I can make or buy a landscape mount and then hard wire it in.

You can get all sorts of flavours of Android builds for these phones and if you want have apps come on at boot up.

I'll post a few pics of what I'm trying to do when I get time.
