Step 1
Insert key into slot

Step 2
Press start/stop button without depressing clutch/brake and wait for the service reminder to dissapear.

Step 3
Immediately after service reminder goes out, press and hold the odometer reset. After 3 secs a warning triangle will appear, keep the odo. button pressed and after another 2-3 secs the Oil can will appear. I f you hold it too long (10 secs in total) you will overshoot the runway and some German writing will appear giving the software level/ can bus etc. of the car. Go back to the beginning and start again.

Step 4
You are now in the service menu, use the toggle switch on indicator stalk to scroll up/down through the various service items.

Step 5
When you have the item you want to reset showing, press the BC button on end of indicator stalk. Reset should now appear in the display. Press in and hold the BC button for 2-3 secs and a clock will start whirling around and hey presto, its done

Step 6
You can now either scroll up/down to select another item (as in step 4) or you can press the start/stop button to exit.

Hi Mate

Reset the service mileage and it worked perfectly - many thanks - saved me a bob or two

Tried to also reset the rear brake pads setting by the same way - it show's the reset clock however, just leaves -------- and no mileage indicator - the service light has also come back on because of this

Any ideas

Regards

Andy

I reset the front brake pads service indicator and have the same problem. Front shows "------" and rear shows "25000". Resetting it again makes no difference. The read brakepad warning light stays on and it shows the red car on lamps everytime I start.

Did you ever find a solution to resetting it please?

The pads and sensors were/are fine. I just got the problem cos I reset the service indicator. Duh.

That might be a fault sensor. I'm thinking you might have to pay a visit to a dealer or BMW specialist to get them to sort it out. :(

Thanks again AndyM for these instructions. My old 120i which my mother now has was complaining it wanted it's microfilter changed. I had only changed it a month ago after the air-con was starting to smell.

I tried to follow the TIS guidelines for resetting and kept getting the software version stuff. Followed your guide and got it first time. Thanks! :)

I have the same problem, also disconnected the battery (2 hours...) but that didn't work either... Can anybody help?
I'm from The Netherlands; the Dutch couldn't help....

Doubt it. The dashes seem to appear when people have reset the indicator but not changed the sensors. The answer is to simply change the sensor.
