Rear Brake Pad Light e87 2011 118d M

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been a topic before but I'm fairly new to the forum and need some advice.

I've had this service light on for about a month now and it hasn't changed from 1200 miles, I've got an AUC warranty till September - is it likely I've got a faulty brake pad sensor or would they actually need doing? They were last done at 30k according to the service booklet and it is currently on 57k - my uncles 320d m sport has done over 100k and has only had them changed once by the prev owner.

I'm not sure what to do? Should I shell out £80 for oem brake pads from bmw direct and get them fitted with new sensors from an F1 auto centre or should I get BMW to check it first?

Has anyone had something similar where the mileage hasn't gone down on the service light?

It last had a service at 52k when I bought the car from BMW.

I don't want to imbalance or confuse the service records because I just don't.

What do you guys reckon?

Sorry if this sounds like I'm waffling lol.

Looks like its saying 1200 mile to the replacement, as the front brakes get the majority of use I'd just keep an eye on them for a month or so.

Yeah that's what I thought - but it hasn't decreased as I've been driving more? It's stayed on 1200...

just monitor it for a while
Can you take a look at the pads? These sensors do tend to kick in early.

Wouldn't BMW check it for free under AUC?

Yes, but I would rather check myself. They have often said I need new pads and tyres when quite clearly I didn't. They prey on people that are clueless or easily scared.
Looks like rear pads reset the service light it will be fine

The sensor is just an indicator, it's not an exact science. It depends on a lot of things, you might drive 100 motorway miles and not touch the brakes.

I've had the car saying I've got 600 miles on my front brake pads for about 4 weeks now.

27k for a set of rear brake pads is fine.

Keep an eye on it and when the warning light turns red, get a new set of pads fitted - or if you're worried get it done now.

You don't need BMW to check it.

What planet are you on?

Giving someone the advice to 'just reset the service light for the brakes'.

Firstly you can't until you've got new sensors and pads anyway (I tried).

Secondly, OP clearly needs new pads, or at least needs to make sure that there is still material left on the old ones!

If I'm wrong he can bring his car to my house and I'll pay/fit the new pads myself, the same planet as you pal so don't speak to me like a knob!

But Dom, when you reset the light, don't your brake pads reset too?! ;)
Lol thanks everyone - look it's nothing to have a heated debate over - it's just a bit odd and very irritating that knights north haven't put on the service booklet what has been done to the car when it was serviced there!

I'll get my dad to check them next time I'm in the midlands as tbh I don't know what I'm really looking for

Just an update guys, I've got 9mm on my front pads and 7mm on back pads so BMW confirmed it was fine for a while just ignore the service light until it goes red as the sensors are way off!

Although they've advised me I'll need new rear tires soon as I've only got between 2-3mm tread left. What do you guys reckon? What should I go for?

Reasonable price for 17" run flats on the standard m sport rims

What tyres are fitted to the front ? Be nice to match the rears to those if theyre a halfway decent brand.
Ah I'll have a look tomorrow, I know that they currently don't match to the front pair as the previous owner looks like she didn't give a toss. I'm not assuming it was a female btw - I know it was because BMW told me lol!

Worthwhile?

Not really.

Wet grip B, not the proper speed rating for £80 a tyre?

Price up Goodyear asym 2.
You sure those Contis are runflats ? Seem very cheap
Yep runflats done through a third party website that negotiate prices with garages - this is an halfords auto centre!
