Looking at adding a piggyback system to my car and have a few questions

Hope mods don't mind me posting here as well

1. Do both systems work in the same way
2. Is jb4 stage 1 simple to fit. Does this give various maps and are they controlled inside the car, I understand that tmc is controlled by a button on the device
3. Has anyone had any issues with these systems

What is the best device ie value for money v performance gain

Not looking to use on a track

TMC - you plug it into the tmap, map and front cam sensor. Very easy to instal , fit and forget. (15 mins max to fit)

There is a dial on the side of the box that is set to 6 as default but can be turned to 7.

i think there was a rr print out of somone making 380hp with the tmc.

Jb4 stg 1 - again this is a fit and forget device , similar to TMC. I do not know much about it to be honest so won't try to explain the ins and outs.

Jb4 stg 2 - this is the 'JB4' where you can change maps to suit your preference. It's has many other features and allows you to create your own maps etc. You can also control some other items of the car such as the exhaust flap & active sound. You can log and check and delete fault codes etc.

The stage 2 jb4 is easy to fit (20-30min) I used the obdii plug so I didn't have to positap any wires.

If considering any I would recommend the JB4, stick it in map 5 and forget about it. You will have more smiles per mile with this than the others. :spotman:

This was Jimbob's M235i with a TMC box, no other mods:

Which tipped me over the edge. Relatively inexpensive fit and forget box, but comparatively not very clever - no additional functions.

Tmc is same / similar as Racechip Ultimate.

I had a short drive in Jimbobs car (dyno'd above) and was impressed.

TMC TB absolutely improves on stock mx35i strong points ie low end and midrange oomph but still runs out of puff at the upper end (irrespective of what the dyno plot may show).

JB4 builds on the low end and midrange but allows error free fitment of upgraded DP which does wonders to improve top end - i.e. last 1500rpm. Gives n55 more useable rev range /headroom instead of short shifting to get back into the meaty midrange.

Indeed new TMC unit due this month according to Daron. No details yet but will have smartphone/tablet control and adjust.

Took my unit off for service today. Amazed at the difference. Reinstalled (better install this time) but yet to drive.

I know it's described as an easy install but is it really simple. I have never poked inside an engine before but am happy repairing laptops

Also can't get my head around how it's use could improve fuel consumption.

Has anyone had any engine light using the tmc.

Also anyone use the tmc without the new auto box plug in. Don't know whether to get the 2 systems

Any install tips out there

It won't. Off boost the car will be identical (normal motorway cruising), on boost the car will use a little more fuel as you would expect.

I haven't yet.

Comes with good instructions, other than where to mount the box itself. I double-sided foam taped mine (number plate sticky pads) to the top of my fusebox (passenger side, under the plastic grill).

Going back to this thread - i have looked online for a specific fitting video and can not see one - (TMC)

does the TMC and stage 1 JB4 work in a very similar manner.

which one theoretically is going to cause more damage due to the way it works.

JB4 Stage 2 has an auto adapting map 5. So for example of the car is running lean or has better fuel it can adapt to those changes and increase or decrease the boost for safety. I wouldn't bother with Stage 1 JB4 to be honest.

And JB4 has more tuning potential, want more free reveng turbo with more sustained boost as BP has mentioned add a sports cat or decat. Want to run Methanol then there is a bolt on kit for JB4. Want 550hp then buy a Pure Stage 2 Turbo and JB4 will work with it.

Even if you don't want to go that far it's good to know that JB4 has you covered.

For example I started with JB4 with an open view to maybe doing more upgrades so I went this route to future proof myself. As it happened I'm currently working on a new downpipe and maybe fueling so who knows what else the future might bring?

Fair enough I was asking for the same reasons I'm looking at getting a sports cat. Which one are you thinking of going for?
