Anybody else who has had their software updated had problems with the steering weighting afterwards?

The car went in a week or so ago to have the software update, which fixed the brake pad service interval etc, but now that it's back the steering weighting has gone strange.

The steering is now so heavy just off centre that it actually feels like it's fighting you. Turn the wheel past about 40 degrees and it goes light again, then really stiff again close to full lock. Strangely it is also stiffer turning to the right than to the left. This seems to be the same at all speeds, but it is of course most noticeable at low speeds, especially on small roundabouts. In sport it is so stiff that you need two hands on the wheel to get it to move...

I really don't like the steering weighting off centre sometimes, it can feel perfect but other times it feels slightly 'sticky' which I have put down to the front tyre pressures.

So as an update to this, shortly after posting it popped back to normal overnight, so I shrugged and forgot about it. Then today the fault returned, and worse than previous. It's now actually quite difficult to maneuver the car around a carpark. So it's booked into BMW next week. We'll see where this one goes...

As a final update, the car's back from the dealers.

It was all a software problem. It threw up about twenty fault codes - steering, brakes, engine, chassis, pretty much everything. So they've essentially reinstalled the cars software and everything now works. Nothing mechanical wrong at all, and all fixed under warranty with no fuss at all.

Not sure that I was expecting a happy ending, but there you go!

Hi, I had a very similar sounding issue to this. Steering felt very sticky when initially trying to turn. It has been much better since I swapped onto my winter tyres (Pirelli Sottozero 225/40/18 all round).
It now feels much better so I put it down to winter temperatures combined with quite worn MPSS with alignment issues too.
Interesting that yours was software related Exitus, glad it's sorted as mine was very unnerving especially at low speed first thing in the morning!
