How do all,

Do I need a new battery? Since I bought my car the auto stop start has never worked, but now when I unlock the car the headlights (Xenons) dont come on anymore, but the puddle lights do ? Also when I sit in the car with the radio on after a journey, the radio will turn itself off after a few minutes ..

No battery light as of yet on the dash, and I've done the 'check' in the settings and nothing comes up ..

I presume I'd need an AGM battery due to the auto stop start?

If someone can advise that'll be great !

Thanks

The final signs your car is trying to keep you mobile are power saving measures like turning down the power to the rear heated screen, and the time/date resetting themselves.

Cold temps will highlight a poorly battery.

Mines been like that since I had the car. (almost 2 years)
Start stop has never worked but I would only turn it off anyway.
If I leave the radio on for a minute after switching the engine off I get the battery warning symbol.

Yep...my stop/start stopped working 2 years ago (not that I use it...as i like my chain to last longer), just recently had new battery and bingo..its works again...had the battery light come on if i left radio on for minute or so...so yes you need a new one bud. Got an Exide 80 AGM from EuroCarParts, same as what it replace, can always go higher amp but wouldn't go lower than 70 imo.

Just replaced my battery after the clock kept resetting itself. Paid £153.00 for an AGM Battery made by Bosch from eurocarparts and now start stop works and everything else is working correctly. You need to get the battery coded as well, don't forget?

Please note........ I opted for the best battery they had in stock as I believe you do get what you pay for....

If anyone is desperate for a decent battery I have a good as new Bmw 70 amp AGM one after upgrading mine to a higher spec. Only thing it's in Cumbria.

PM me if your interested.
Ah gutted I didn't know this a week ago. I'd have taken that off you. Just paid £123 for a new bosch one with those specs. Although cumbria is a bit far away!

how do you start the car without the stop/start button ?

never tried that?

If stop start has never worked, that's probably a good indication that you need a new one. I'm not sure either way about the xenons and radio.

You need a AGM one, and it needs to be coded after fitting.

Mine does. Got it coded out so it's always off when I start the car, unless I turn it on. Girlfriend has it on her A1 too. I hate it, she likes it, but then again, hers is an Auto so it's less annoying IMO.

Not quite sure why people hate the start stop function? I love it...... saves fuel and it's no slower to start than putting the car in gear with the engine running, anyway? Yep...... you could argue that if someone was at the lights and sat on the clutch in first they will indeed be quicker off the line than you but they'll also be quicker to replacing the clutch than you too!?

Here's why I hate it, it annoys me. :lol2:. It does save fuel though but I cant stand it.

Just irritating when it cuts out and starts again, does my head in. Plus causes my aftermarket headunit to power cycle when the car starts again. Even when I drive my dads C220 CDI or the other halfs TFSI A1, I turn it off. I've never liked the whole stop/start thing to be honest.

I drive a manual btw, neutral in traffic, foot off the clutch, idling is what I do. C220 CDI and TFSI A1 are auto. Just not a fan of stop/start.
