Picked up my M140i

Evening all,

Finally got myself a M140i picked it up a few days ago and loving it so far. Was driving a fiesta st180 for the last 7 years.

Noticed after a wash can’t tell if it’s my eyes playing up but I swear the right boot gap gap is larger then the left, feels slightly bigger by using my finger. Can’t see any damage or bent metal anywhere. It seems padantic but it seems to be bugging me a bit 😂 other than that love the car and power it has. Can it be adjusted somehow?

thanks.

welcome to the forum and congrats on purchase. it does look slightly bigger on the right side. will let more knowledgeable people opine but if nothing wasn't adjusted/repaired, I'd close my eyes and forget about it (after 1 year haha) ;)

Congratulations on the purchase of your beautiful car, and welcome to the forum!

No, you're absolutely right - it is. It's most noticeable if you look at the gap between your left inner and outer tail lights and those on the right - the space between them is smaller on the left than the right.

If I were you I'd take it to a bodyshop and have them adjust - it shouldn't be too difficult to sort, just make sure it's a decent place else they might screw it up further!
Congratulations and welcome to the forum.
and may I say the correct colour-🌅 🍊😉
I’m not aware of any adjustment myself, have a look at the hinges to see if you can notice any witness marks of previous adjustment.
the taillights line up perfectly as do the bumper lines. I do see what you mean though,I dare not look at mine now!
I think it maybe just a matter of welcome to the fitment panel gaps of the 1 series bud.
Thanks all. I might see if the light cluster is actually sitting in properly as it looks like it might be slightly out and needs pushing in to the left so that may be causing the slight gap. I will have a look when I’m off next hopefully they ain’t too difficult to get out and back in.
Great choice and colour bud, enjoy it (y)
Although my car is far older than yours my boot is exactly the same.
I got rear ended in January and swear it wasn't like that previously. Boot was untouched and happily all my other panel gaps are bang on including the lights. No signs of movement around the hinges and doesn't leek water etc and nothing mentioned during alignment.
Don't mean to alarm you so maybe it's something BMW have perfected over the generations 🤷‍♂️😄
The lines between the lights and bumper/ boot look ok to my eyes.
There is a difference between left and right. The bottom of the left tail light lines up but the right doesn't. This is where the discrepancy is. It's marginal...but it's there IMO

You rekon I should try and remove the right light and try and fit it again and hopefully should be more flush?
You can adjust the lid on the hinges, slacken the 4X 10mm bolts on the body slightly on both hinges (you need to leave some resistance, so not loose). You can see the adjustment slit in the lower bolt hole. ease the lid over to the right slightly, tighten the bolts and shut the lid, keep doing this until you get even alignment.

You probably able to adjust it and has it been in a accident before?
Does it have the Emerald struts installed?
