I was in Cotswold Cheltenham a month or so back just for a nosey at a purple M3 they had (didn't look great). Was chatting to a salesman for a few minutes about mine, then he mentioned how good the DCT was.
I thought I was chatting with a fellow enthusiast, that comment ruined everything.
I'm not sure I'd be particularly good at selling cars, but I do know that I'd research each and every car I was expected to sell as much as I could.
BMW need to employ petrolheads as well as salesmen/businessmen

I guess it's his job to tell you DCT is better and that it's a must for re-sale. It makes the car faster etc......
He's really just selling you a heavy lump of profitable metal under the car!
Same sh*te they spout about faster (slower) more economical (less economical) more fun (less fun) 'Sports Auto' in the M-Lite.
It's the same with Porshe btw. The hard sell of PDK starts the second you're in the door!
My instructor gave me the 'PDK push' at Silverstone, until I drove him in a Manual 911. He then recanted, said I should not consider an automatic (sports car) and apologised for the sales pitch they're encouraged to engage in!
You'd be fine as a salesman I think. Only a tiny % of potential buyers know the truth. They think it makes them more like a racing driver and have never learned to change gear better than an auto can.
99% of car buyers are seen as idiot cash cows by the salesman. That's why we're often treated so badly by them. TRL is to be applauded for actually wanting to deal with much harder to please, car enthusiasts. He's realised, that is they come from a forum, they are likely to be pre-qualified and predisposed to buy. (Actually easier to deal with)
But I bet even he sell mostly automatic cars!
