This chap has clearly appreciated the car he's had, adding the splitter, wrapping the mirrors etc. He's even gone to some effort writing the advert. But...

3.5L?
Twin Turbo?
35mpg around town?
4 year service pack??

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

How do people not know more about such major details of a car they've been driving 2.5 years?

45-50mpg on the motorway too.

Hopefully nobody is going to buy that car thinking they'll manage a genuine 40+mpg average.

I don't follow the logic of swapping out a M135i for an Audi S1 with similar spec. The S1 is very small for a new family member and isn't any less subtle than a M135i if it has to have the same spec including exterior body kit.

Odd to buy such a car and know so little about it.

It looks a good car other than his bad advert.

There's no excuse for such stupidity !!

I've only had my car 3 months and I've lost count of the amount of people that ask me if it's a 3.5 twin turbo , and these are so called petrol heads :(

I was in Cotswold Cheltenham a month or so back just for a nosey at a purple M3 they had (didn't look great). Was chatting to a salesman for a few minutes about mine, then he mentioned how good the DCT was.

I thought I was chatting with a fellow enthusiast, that comment ruined everything.

I'm not sure I'd be particularly good at selling cars, but I do know that I'd research each and every car I was expected to sell as much as I could.

BMW need to employ petrolheads as well as salesmen/businessmen

Looks quite a normal advert, for a non car enthusiast owner. Yes, they made some optical changes, but that's it.
They bought it because it's posh and is top of the range I guess.

Loads of owners don't even know their 1er is rear wheel drive, so how can we expect them to know that CC engine a 135i, 125i, 125d, 118i............. :lol2:

Almost every other car advert I see, (for anything smaller than an RR) says "Selling coz baby"
He's taken the totally standard mpg lies, just a little too far though :lol2:

I guess it's his job to tell you DCT is better and that it's a must for re-sale. It makes the car faster etc......
He's really just selling you a heavy lump of profitable metal under the car!

Same ****e they spout about faster (slower) more economical (less economical) more fun (less fun) 'Sports Auto' in the M-Lite.

It's the same with Porshe btw. The hard sell of PDK starts the second you're in the door!
My instructor gave me the 'PDK push' at Silverstone, until I drove him in a Manual 911. He then recanted, said I should not consider an automatic (sports car) and apologised for the sales pitch they're encouraged to engage in!

You'd be fine as a salesman I think. Only a tiny % of potential buyers know the truth. They think it makes them more like a racing driver and have never learned to change gear better than an auto can.

99% of car buyers are seen as idiot cash cows by the salesman. That's why we're often treated so badly by them. TRL is to be applauded for actually wanting to deal with much harder to please, car enthusiasts. He's realised, that is they come from a forum, they are likely to be pre-qualified and predisposed to buy. (Actually easier to deal with)
But I bet even he sell mostly automatic cars!

We'd moved on from the M3 discussion and were talking about my M lite. Told him to give me a shout if they ever get a manual in as although I love the auto, a decent test drive in a 6MT could possibly make me change. It was at this point he said 'oh, but the DCT is great'. Facepalm!

It's so refreshing to have someone such as TRL at our disposal. I went along to Rybrook in Worcester with a mate to discuss an M135i. The deal he came up with was around 8% off. When I mentioned that people were regularly getting upwards of 20% off he said 'Rybrook don't do that sort of thing'. This is all despite me reading about the great deal someone from here for with them around the same time.

Matey also wants top dollar for his P&J - suppose extra 500cc and an extra blower must justify the price - hee hee
I wish I'd gone for the twin turbo 3.5L version, does wonders for the fuel economy. Although you do lose a year on the service pack

Dan,

Trust me, get your newly acquired JB4 installed and you will be fine with 3kcc single snail version !!!

Are you running a downpipe ??

BP
It arrived today, can't wait to get home and get it on. 2.5 weeks to push, can't come soon enough!

After much deliberation I've decided I'm going to go with the BCS sports cat. After hearing yours and comparing the craftsmanship with others that I've been checking out online I'm sold.

Just need to come up with a timetable to get everything done in the time I have off when I get back. Working on getting the car serviced asap (due in about 1k miles) on the service pack while it's standard, sourcing a set of wheels to get the MPSS back on, get DP fitted, get JB4 fitted and hopefully a RR session. Although the latter can wait. Like I mentioned at BW, expensive start to the year!

In the 2 weeks I have off I've got a trip to Suffolk to see family, my birthday, my niece's birthday, spurs vs arsenal, a trip to Cornwall with the gf and dog and the gf's birthday. Busy time!

To be fair, there was a time when I thought engine size in all BMWs was indicated by the last two model numbers. I've also seen information (including from BMW I think) that the twin scroll turbo is a twin turbo - just a word missing.

He has also quoted the real engine size in the specs although the Harmon kardon dab radio with cd player is an option I wasn't aware of.

Haha I'm a 100% with you! Even talking to friends who love cars but they say fact that is incorrect pisses me of!

My GF thinks I should become a car salesman but I don't think that it would work out..

No it says 2979 in brackets and twin scroll turbo. No reference to any of the original comments???

Best mpg I had was 39 driving very carefully. Got 435 miles out of a tank with a little left. But never again! The driving was painful.....

He has edited the description.

I'm sure he's added £500 on to the price too. I'm sure it was £21,750 earlier.

Taking a turbo and 500cc off should make the cost go down surely, not up? :lol2:

He's still sticking to the silly fuel consumption figures. He didn't edit them when changing the rest.

I might have slightly contacted him asking about the engine swap he must have performed. He replied it was the factory, "3.5i" engine. I might have sort of corrected him on what that engine was.
