Picked my new 70 plate M135i up this week and after a day of getting used to it i started playing around with the Harmon Kardon stereo. I literally have no bass. I’ve seen this has been mentioned quite a lot in the past so I booked it in but they won’t look at it for another 3 weeks. Anyone know any possible fix?

I would say be patient for the appointment and very cautious in the meantime - if you try to fix it yourself then you may risk invalidating your warranty. When playing some music with heavy bass, have you tried placing your hand over the subwoofer that's mounted in the floor under each of the front seats, to check whether you can feel the cone moving air? I'm wondering if they're working as they should, but the level of bass is just disappointing.

Hi Henry, have you got your balance sorted? My HK has the rear window pulsating with bass when it's loud.
Hi Simon

Mine is fine thanks. I was just wondering if the OP's bass is actually working, and just sounds non existent, as I wasn't sure whether the bass is very substantial in the Harmon Kardon set-up. I had 'Basic Stereo' in my car, and the bass is quite poor in that; I've heard the Harmon Kardon but I don't remember it very well. From what you're saying though, this is not the case with the Harmon Kardon. I wasn't bothered which system my car had when I bought it, as I new I was going to upgrade the audio regardless, and lose the centre channel. I ended up spending silly money on my audio upgrade (about £4k) but it does sound very good - an even better upgrade than the MP LSD ;)

I think the Harmon Kardon system has just the one power amp (multi-channel) to power all the car's speaker, so it doesn't seem like the OP could have a simple fix such as replacing a fuse. There's going to be a problem with the electronics (the amp, cross-over, or cable harness/connectors) and if it were me I would be leaving this to the dealer to sort out.

Hi Henry thank you for your reply. There is no bass at all, when I change the settings it makes absolutely no difference whether it’s all the way down or all the way up. Put it this way I have a 2008 Citroen C1 and it sounds no better than the stereo in that 🤣 I think I will just have to be patient and wait for the dealer to sort it out, it’s just frustrating that I only picked it up 3 days ago and now I have to wait 3 weeks for them to have a look. I will have a look later to see if I can feel anything under the seats anyway.

Yes that’s what I thought, along with the passenger door rubber at the bottom which is hanging off. Maybe I need to spend more than 33k to get a proper pdi 🤣

This is caused by a faulty HK amplifier, I had it in my old M135ix at just 300miles, it was fixed under warranty with a replacement amp, it’s a known issue.

It’s booked in for 30th March for them to take a look, how long did it take for them to get a new amp?
It was back in 2021, so maybe different now, they got it delivered and fitted next day.
