Hi all

Been lurking for sometime on here and just placed an order on a new M235i - excited / impatient for it to arrive in March / April! Just coming to the end of a 2yr lease in my current 120d Sport:

No clever comments about the plate / spacing please - I'm new remember  It's been a great car for my 80 mile daily commute - averaged 57mpg over 34k miles even with some spirited driving on the back roads but 90% cruising on the M1. I really should get another, or perhaps a 6-pot diesel but ever since a colleague got an M5 last year I've been pining for a proper petrol - having been stuck in Diesels ever since I sold my Celica T-Sport about 6-7 years ago.

Bracing myself for a jump in fuel bills but hoping you can all reassure me I won't regret it

Here's my spec on the configurator:
MG with Oyster & Brushed Alu / Gloss Black trim
Auto
Adaptive Susp
Driver Comfort Pack
Pro Media Pack
Heated Fronts
Sun Protection Glass
Reverse Camera

Seriously considering an MPE and possibly some exterior MP bits. Would like the 405s but not sure I can justify the cost with seemingly little scope to part-ex the originals!

I did toy with getting a 340i instead given the deals currently available but it's only ever me in the car (a front passenger 5% of the time) so decided in the end that a sportier coupe was the way to go!

I've pretty much running parallel to you here. Moving from a 120d with a 60 mile daily commute to a M235 that I ordered yesterday.

I did an extended test drive to do my work commute and driving exactly the same run with cruise set as I do now in eco it returned an indicated 38mpg. Of course this will drop when the fun starts but the engine seems impressive.

Lets be honest, this isnt a head decision though ;)

Ha! Definitely not a head decision and requires some post-graduate level man-maths! Hoping I can keep the commute around 40mpg - and that the petrol gets back below diesel at the forecourt!

Congrats on the purchase you will love it!

Check out the photos in the M235! Photo thread as there are a couple of us who have some MP bits on an MG 235! The wheels are a good investment in my opinion they look better in the arches I'm more than happy with them

Cheers, Gary. Don't you worry I read that thread cover to cover before placing my order!! Given the miles I do (and client facing job) I figured the MG will look better when a little dirty and also looks fairly understated / smarter than the other options.

Particularly like yours and the wheels look bang on - just not sure I can stump up £2.7k. Seems the smart move is to hang on to the originals and put them back on / sell the 405s when done with it - but that does mean you're a full £2.7k down for 3-4 years. The MP kit at around £1100 seems like more bang for my buck if I can't afford the lot!

I also note we share another 2 previous cars in the 120d and the T Sport... Great minds! I moved up to the 190 from a diesel 306 and the jump in power blew my mind - hoping this will be a similar experience!

You'll love it, great colour combo. MP bits really make a difference, pretty sure you can acquire the 405's for around £1700 now? I sold my OEM 18" on eBay for £850.
Hi Manc - I was looking at the Cotswold prices including tyres at £2.7k - where can you get them for £1700?

If I could get the net cost down to sub £1k I'd give it some serious thought!

Have also spied your car on the pics thread and love what you've done with the ferric touches! Would love to see some close ups of the grey finish on the blades and splitters?

Not sure where they were priced of if they came with tyres, just remember someone mentioning that price recently. Have you looked on eBay, I got mine along with others on here for £1250 (without tyres). Brand new genuine BMW, not sure if the guy is still selling them?

It sounds like you have similar thoughts to me in terms of colour. I went with EB with my 1er with it being a more subtle design however as the 2er may attract a little more attention I wanted to limit that with an understated colour. Saying that though with the Performance bits it certainly has more presence! If you want a cheaper option for rims maybe look at BBS CH-Rs in gunmetal. That's the route I was going to go down but was lazy and wanted to pick it up finished from the dealer

My 120d was a great car and I would certainly go that route again if I had to due to mileage. I didn't get on with the Celeca though as it didn't have enough low down torque so I felt it was hard work to unlock the performance. You'll find your new car is on a different level!

Thanks for the close-ups, H - great idea to have that silver edge on it. I take it the blades are just totally ferric (?) but how did you / they get the edge of the splitter like that? Was it taped off?

It's H, not Gary! :)

The blades, rear diffuser lip and lower lip of the front splitter are in ferric grey, same as the wing mirrors. I assume they just taped it off, was done by a BMW Bodyshop.
