Hi,

I finally changed my Bridgestone Potenza Runflats that come with the car over to Continental SportContact5's and the difference is great! A much more compliant ride and much quieter!

However, I had been driving around during the day and in the evening I was going along a motorway and the runflat warning light appeared on the dash. I didn't have a puncture but I pulled into a garage and checked the pressures. They were all at 2.5 bar, instead of 2 on the front and 2.2 at the rear. I adjusted the pressures down to the correct level and reset the light and drove a further 10 miles and all seems OK.

How does the Tyre pressure monitor work as there are no sensors on the valves or rims?

Thanks

Paul

Works using the ABS system based on tyre rotation.

Yup, it compares the wheel speeds of opposite corners. If one wheel suddenly starts rotating faster than the others, the car assumes it's suddenly become much smaller, ie, losing pressure.

You must fully reset they system once you've fitted new tyres and adjusted the pressures, per your user manual.
