I find the whole software update process a right royal PITA. I have downloaded it on the app on my phone and as the car is safely parked up in the garage I would like to update it now. I have uploaded it to the car from the phone, but it now just says I will be notified when it's ready to install. Why? Why can't I manually start it immediately? I've locked the car and been back to it twice and turned it on, to see if this kicks it into action but still no option to update. I guarantee it will do it as I'm driving around tomorrow when it won't be convenient to do the update. Why do they make the process so hard and need to involve my phone anyway? The car has a SIM built in, just download the update through that in the background and then tell me when it's ready.
You don't have to use your phone, the last update mine performed when I was driving through the idrive in the car. However it does, in my experience, take much longer...

Hi all, I agree with a lot of the comments on here, I too think these updates are a faff and a PITA. At first I thought it was me not being very tech savvy so feel better that other people feel the same way as me. As regards this latest update, I’ve ran the car this week on the daily commute and kept an eye on things. So far my Apps haven’t greyed out since install as mentioned in other posts. Just a thought…if we ignored these updates when available and then something went wrong with the car, could BMW say the warranty is invalid due to running the car without the latest software updates ?

Yes I have the same problem.no Spotify and all the apps are unavailable.
I just solved the problem.I first contacted connected drive services and explained my problem. After one day they send something like a trigger to my car and send me also the instructions to make the fix.first you have to start the car and reboot the idrive system just push for 30 second’s the volume button.Than go to your app menu and hover over one of your app’s than push the option button and klick update apps.than it starts refreshing your app’s and the apps start to become available again. But the first stap is contact remote service’s first.
This is how I fix the app’s problem

Well mine finally popped up with the update screen this morning and it updated without any problem. MyBMW app still connects to the car OK. Now, by complete coincidence a friend of mine has an identical car and the exact same experience of the update but unlike me (as I would never do such a thing) he uses Bimmercode and he says he now gets an error trying to re-enter the stop/start memory function. When he tries to read the Engine Control Unit module it gets to 20% , flags an error and then says Coding not possible. He has emailed BimmerCode and hopefully they can fix it, but he will be very annoyed if the only noticeable change for the new software is that you can't program the stop/start memory.

No problem here on my 2021 F40 M135iX, when I had to restore all my coding after the update. I find BimmerCode is very convenient for quick changes in Expert Mode, compared with Launcher/E-Sys. Has he had any mods beyond basic coding?

This is my first software update since getting the car in August 22. I’ve followed the instructions and also watch the YouTube videos. My BMW App has downloaded the update but hasn’t uploaded it to the car. It says both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi need to be connected. According to the car they are and my Wi-Fi on my iPhone picks up the car but still shows as 4G on home screen so I’m a bit confused on two things.
1. Why does it seem I’m connected to Wi-Fi (ticked on my Wi-Fi list as connected) but still shows as 4G?
2. I seem to have the correct connections according to the car but after a few hours of driving today the update didn’t upload?

Thanks for any advice/tips you can give.

Was Stop/Start memory one of your coding settings and, if so, that went OK after the update? No other mods beyond basic coding.

Yes, there are two ASS settings in the DME ECU.

MSA -- I left as aktiv, as turning it off didn't apparently do anything useful.

TCM_MSA_MEMORY -- I restored nicht_aktiv to aktiv. This remembers the last setting from the ASS switch across engine starts. It doesn't do anything if you select ECO drive, where ASS is always on by default but can still be turned off by the switch. It all works exactly as before the update.

Nothing on mine yet.

I checked which version it is currently sitting on, and it is 07/2019.52.
I reckon that is way out, surely? I bought the car in January this year, so I haven't done any updates yet, as you can probably guess.

Searching for an update in the car settings says no updates available, and the app is almost next to useless, in my opinion, as all it shows is the car's location, my driver profile, which retailer I am attached to and how it is connected to the car. On the home screen, it says no active subscription, and when I click the link to the store, it offers me the following:

Your connected boosted package is £89
Concierge service £89
Map Update Package £79
Service Inclusive is unavailable through the app in the UK

Then I have an Unlimited duration of:
Apple Carplay
Intelligent emergency calls

And Active:
Remote software upgrade
Teleservices

No idea whether I need anything else or if I should get the dealer to look into it.

There was an issue on some 2019 cars (mine included) that meant a dealer-installed patch was required in order to receive OTA updates. Since I had the patch installed, I’ve received them all with no issues.

Your software version is a very early one, so I would suggest this is the issue you have. If your dealer says there is no issue, connected Connected Drive - they provided me with a document to show my dealer detailing the issue.

Thanks for the reply. I bet that Is the issue.

Ill get on to my dealer and will email connected drive anyway so I go there pre-armed.

Cheers

I coded stop/start memory last weekend via Bimmercode and I've lost it after the update. Just waiting on my Enet cable to arrive and I'll see if it allows me to recode that option again.
If not, I'll have to get used to simply pressing the button everytime I drive it (wifes car) as I do with my Skoda company car.
Anyone else lost the stop/start memory coding after the update and then been able to recode it with no issues?

I (sorry I mean my friend!) had another go today with BimmerCode and it gave the same error again but then I remembered you need the ignition on (AKA diagnostic mode active) and after that it read the Engine Control Unit module fine and I was able to program ASS memory no problem. So it was my bad, but it would have been nice if the BimmerCode software had prompted me to turn on diagnostic mode when it couldn't read the module rather than just throwing an error.

As technology gets more powerful it seems to get less helpful in my experience.

That's odd, as if I make that mistake, BC just refuses to connect. Oh well, just so long as it eventually gets there.
Yes, I thought it was odd too. It connected and read the list of modules fine, it was just getting the details of the Engine Control Module that failed. That's the problem with things you don't need to use very often, it's easy to forget the exact procedure.

My car had six OTA updates since I bought it and every time I lost the start/stop memory and was able to code it back using bimmercode with no problem ;)

BTW had absolutely no issues during and after the update process
