Hi all,
Long time member but been without a BMW since I suffered from the timing chain problem on an older 120d. Ended up tooling around in a 10 year old Ford Focus for a year after that and have been without a car entirely for the last 9 months. (Yes it has been hell :| )

I'm in the market for a new 1 Series (logic = buy new, any problems will be under warranty this time!!) but can't afford a big engine.
I've reached out to TRL regarding my spec and pricing but here's what I have in mind.

BMW 118i M Sport (5 Door)
Extras:
Professional Nav
PDC Front & Rear
Harman Kardon
Estoril Blue (I can take white, but if I can afford it I'd like a colour)

A friend has the Pro Nav and HK speakers in his 320 and they're a revelation so I definitely want to go for those. Am I missing anything obvious that isn't too pricey on the monthly or does that look about right?
Electric and / or heated seats would be lovely but they're definitely a "nice to have", same with folding mirrors.

Black Panel Display?

I opted for rear camera (to assist the wife!) and didn't bother with front PDC.

Grey ferric wheels look the business too!

Auto, is nice to have.
Dual zone climate, sun protection glass, driver comfort; cruise control etc?

I thought the black panel display came with the Pro Nav?

Rear camera isn't a bad idea, driven a lot of hire cars in the US with it and it's a nice feature. I'll check out the cost. I had front PDC in the old 1 Series and really liked that though.

Auto I can take or leave, it's a smaller engine and I still love manual gear shifts :)

Dual zone climate and cruise I thought came standard, will have to go and check again.

[EDIT]
Ah I see, single-zone air con is standard, dual zone climate is optional. I can take or leave dual-zone (laws of thermodynamics mean dual zone is pretty much a gimmick anyway!) but the auto climate I would miss not having.

The BMW Professional Media package gives you the black panel (I should have said that rather than just Pro Nav).

Common perception is that a bigger engine = more expensive...true if buying outright but if you're financing, the gap is a lot smaller than you think due to greater BMW contributions and higher GFV. You've already contacted Tony, so get a quote on a M135i as well. You may find that its cheaper in the long run to go for the bigger engine than buyers remorse in 6months time and change again. Man maths

I've been doing a ton of man maths of late!! :lol2:

So here's what I went back to Tony with, I think it covers off everything (!)
- Driver Comfort Package + Front PDC
- Interior Comfort Package
- M Sport Plus Package
- BMW Professional Media Package
- Brushed Aluminium with Oxide Silver Finisher
- Seat adjustment - front, electric with driver memory
- Exterior Mirrors - folding, automatically dimming
- Model designation deletion side & rear
- BMW Service Inclusive

Some of those are free items and definite options but I want to see what it all shakes out at. I reckon an M135i is going to be too far out of reach (already pushing the limits of my budget, and I'm moving house in May so need to be careful!) but I wouldn't say no to a 125 for a bit of extra kick.

What car did you come from before?

I'm hoping that I'll be alright with a smaller engine as long as I have lots of toys to play with ;)
I've been without a car for almost a year and had no end of problems before that. The last big engine I had was in a Z4 3.0si but I almost don't remember what that was like!

It also keeps the running costs down which is key really ... if running costs go up, I need to reduce my monthly payment to compensate which means fewer nice bits on the car.

I traded my Audi TT Quattro for a 320d M Sport as I was after an auto due to knee injury! I then swapped the 320d for the 118d within 3months!! The 320 was a tank of a car compared to what I was use to, and I couldn't get use to it!!

I joined here and became hooked on the 1series :lol2:

I do mainly short runs with the occasional long run (up to Scotland) so I stuck with diesel having come from the tdi Audi and 320d. The 118 drives great, but the mpg was better in the 320, and TT I'd upgrade if I could afford to!!

Wouldn't mind to see what deposit / monthlies you got via TRL.

Misses is currently in a Citroen DS3 DStyle+ 64 plate, so nearly 1 and half years into PCP but we now have a little one and the 3dr and no boot is a pain in the backside. She is in massive neg equity at the moment (even with £1000 deposit and her mini on top), but maybe with TRL and his magical ways we can get her into a 118i or 116d 5dr Sport or MSport with Rear Sensors and Black Panel Display (and LEDs if not M Sport) for little deposit (around £500) and monthlies around £210-£250.

I've gone off the basis of the current BMW 118i offer BMW are doing until the end of March; £4199 down as deposit and £259 a month.
I'll let you know what TRL comes back with :)

Considering a base spec M135i is £1k down and £299 a month before options that seems a lot. Especially when you take into account the additional kit that comes as standard on it.

That sounds like an awful deal. I paid £1500 down and £350 a month on my M135i. The spec is in my sig. And don't forget if you drop the auto and go for white that saves you over 2k but I didn't go for pro nav.
I priced up a 120d and M135i before I bought. Both identical spec bar HK stereo in the 120d and they came out something like £1200 difference but as said the higher gfv of the 135 off sets that some what so it's only £20-£30 a month more.
Wasn't TRL doing £1000 down and £299 a month on a base spec M135i?

I've got a 118i LCI too, check out what I've spec'd, I would definitely get folding mirrors too. Couldn't justify £900 for the pro nav tbh

Crikey, I thought the BMW finance deal looked a good one!!

I've been bamboozled by marketing ...

Now very interested to see what TRL comes back with! I'll have another trawl of his subforum and see what's going on.

TRL will give you a no BS price. Have a look on his sponsor page on here and it will give you the monthly cost of each option which is very helpful
Aye I've just been having a look. You're right, base M135i with 1k down and 299 a month is not only within budget but also requires significantly less down up front!!

I've had a think about the M135i and with the additional running costs I can't justify it; tax and insurance will be higher not to mention the fuel cost which means I'm looking at a base spec car ... not bad but I know I'd pine for features.

So I've got a quote back of £325 a month with £4k down for a 118i with everything I asked for which makes it a pretty much fully loaded car.
I can drop the electric seats (nice, but I'll be the only one driving it) and probably the paint if I need to, which would bring me inside my budget. I won't be making a decision for another few weeks but that's a pretty decent offer I think.

The 120i is another £25 a month, so I may consider dropping the paint and seats and upping the engine size instead.

I'm only paying £420 a month for my m135 with zero down and 2k of negative equity to cover from my 3GT.

I've got pro nav, comfort access, elec seats, heated seats, 5dr, met paint, front & rear sensors and comfort pack.

With 4K down that seems a fortune for a 118i
