New Headlights Main Beam Pattern

Had my head lights replaced under warranty due to condensation. Now there is a big dark area in the centre of the high beam. Contacted the dealer and they replied with this - images attached.

Seems to be the way they are now.

This morning myself and the master technician investigated BMW documents and technical data in regards to option 0552 - adaptive head lights and option 05AC High beam assist . The information did confirm images from the head light main beam showing with blocked area in centre of lights ( normal main beam operation and high beam assist operation )

We have gained access to one of our sales demos of same model and spec as your own car . Please see images attached - normal main beam pattern visible on tiled wall on MOT ramp within workshop , this does confirm the correct image pattern .

The headlight units delivered and fitted to your vehicle from BMW with the latest SW may be modified / upgraded and differ from your original lights . Unfortunately this is out with our control and will be unable to revert back to original lights operation .

I'll check tomorrow when she comes out the garage and see. Had the replacement done on both units a month ago (haven't driven in the dark since - but can't remember how they looked previously.....)
will take some getting used too :eek2:

Looks like mine is the same. Not massively clear from this pic, but there's a definite gap in the middle now on full beam!

Thanks for taking the time to check that, seems to be a decision made by BMW as they are all the same. It definitely effects night driving. Dark patches and shadows. See my video below.

Surely it’s got to be a coding/setup problem. I doubt bmw would be happy with a big missing section of light that takes performance backwards from the factory delivered car. Sounds like dealerships don’t know what they’re doing and are hoping a bluff will send customers on their way
Checked my lights after the update I was called back in for after the replacement was fitted due to moisture and theres no sign of dark patches whatsoever on full beam, lights behaving exactly as they did before being called back in for the update.

I reckon there's a firmware update anomaly somewhere along the line, especially seeing as your car got called back on. It's a mystery at the moment.

Weird thing is I cant see what the recall I took it back for has actually done, the tech who did it told me it was a bulletin sent from BMW with a further update they had to do on any cars with a replacement headlight installed.

Did you notice the black area prior to the recall? Difficult as it's summer time and lights aren't on unless your driving late at night.
Tempted to drop the dealer a note and ask their thoughts. Seems odd that some not everyone has the change in pattern!

I'm certain that after having the new headlight fitted there was no issue with a black area, the first thing I did after the new headlight was fitted was take the car out at night to check the lights were working fully and in alignment.I repeated this process once the the update was installed and again couldn't see any dark areas.
my F22 M235i has this dark section on high beam when an object is in close proximity to the car. I think its the adaptive headlight beam pattern and you wiĺl probably find the beam crossover at a greater distance yields no black box.

I had terrible alignment issues with my adaptive headlights after an indy cocked up alignment after lowering, but eventually got it resolved on my second dealership alignment visit. Post alignment still have black box on close proximity object.. not normally seen on normally driving.
